Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the graph, identifying the trends for all four sectors. You successfully highlight the growth in retail and healthcare and the decline in manufacturing and agriculture. However, the overview is slightly thin, and some data points are inaccurate. For instance, you state that agriculture was the least demanding sector in 2020 with 2 million jobs, but the graph shows manufacturing also ending near that level, and the retail/healthcare figures are described as reaching 16 million, which is a slight misreading of the data points. To reach a higher band, ensure data accuracy and provide a more comprehensive overview of the overall trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from general trends to specific data points. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In 1960', 'On the other hand', and 'While', which help the flow. However, the use of referencing and linking is sometimes mechanical. For example, the transition between the description of 1960 and the 2020 data could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the time periods, which aids readability.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'employment opportunities', 'vacancies', and 'sectors'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'takes part in the US economy by proving' (should be 'contributed to... by providing') and 'least demanding sector' (which is not the correct term for job numbers). There are also minor errors in word form, such as 'the manufacturing' (should be 'manufacturing' without the article). Expanding your range of precise reporting verbs and nouns would improve this score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'The both retail and agriculture sectors were offered' (incorrect article and passive voice usage), 'healthcare sector created... and lied at the end' (should be 'lay'), and 'the number rose up to' (redundant preposition). While these errors do not impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and ensuring that passive constructions are used accurately when describing data trends.
