Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover all four sectors of the economy shown in the graph, identifying general trends such as the upward trajectory of retail and healthcare, the decline of agriculture, and the fluctuating path of manufacturing. However, the data reporting is vague, imprecise, and at times inaccurate compared to the visual data. For instance, stating that retail and healthcare started in a "small amount off job in this sectors" lacks specific figures, and some comparisons are poorly supported. The overview is rudimentary and embedded within the introduction rather than functioning as a distinct summary paragraph. While the main features are touched upon, the lack of precise data points and underdeveloped explanations place this response firmly at Band 5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text suffers from significant organizational and cohesive weaknesses. The response lacks standard paragraphing, being lumped together awkwardly or divided with broken structure. Cohesive devices are either repetitive or used inaccurately, such as "on the other hand" and "afterward its fall down". The progression of ideas is disjointed, jumping between sectors without a clear logical flow or overarching structure. Pronoun referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like "The manufacturing sectors have different stories one is going up". These issues restrict the overall coherence of the report, resulting in a Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0 based on the presence of some basic linking.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The lexical range is quite limited and repetitive, relying on basic vocabulary like "jobs", "sectors", "economy", "grow up", and "going down". There are numerous word choice and collocation errors, such as "illustrated number of jobs changes", "decline continuous", and "constant grow up". Spelling errors also appear, including "begin" instead of "began" and "its" instead of "it's" or "it". While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the basic subject matter, the frequent errors and lack of sophisticated phrasing prevent the response from achieving a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
Grammatical control is weak throughout the response. The writer relies heavily on simple sentences and makes frequent errors in tense consistency, subject-verb agreement, and clause structure. Examples include "This line graph illustrated number of jobs changes" (incorrect tense and noun phrasing) and "There are four major sectors... are manufacturing..." (faulty relative clause/verb combination). Punctuation is also problematic, with missing periods and strange spacing. While a few basic structures are correct, complex sentences are rare and almost always flawed. This demonstrates limited control over grammar and accuracy.
