Number of jobs in four sectors of the economy in the US, 1960-2020

Number of jobs in four sectors of the economy in the US, 1960-2020

Student answer (Band 5.0)

The graph illustrate the four sectors and demonstrating the number of jobs in them between [redacted phone]. If we start from the 1960 it can be clearly seen that manufacting sector contains the highest job while the healthcare contains the lowest job opportunities. However, with the passage of time the trend starts to change and in 1980 the manufacturing sector hits its peak in terms of job opportunities and after that its still decreasing till 2020 as per given graph information. Other then that the lowest and consistently declining sector is the agriculture section. where the sectors like retail and healthcare they both has shown an impressive development of job opportunities in the tenure of [redacted phone] and in the 2020 the both are on the same level providing equal number of jobs. In conclusion the agriculture sector need some serious rescue as it plays a vital role in the economy also we should look over the manufacturing sector because as observed that sector is also desclining with time.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers all four economic sectors shown in the graph and attempts to report main features and comparisons, fulfilling the basic requirements of Academic Task 1. However, the analysis lacks an explicit and distinct overview paragraph, which is essential for a Band 6 or higher. Furthermore, some data points are described rather vaguely, such as stating that retail and healthcare 'are on the same level providing equal number of jobs' in 2020 when healthcare is at 16 million and retail is also at 16 million (which is accurate, but the overall summarisation and selection of trends remain somewhat simplistic). The conclusion also introduces subjective recommendations ('agriculture sector need some serious rescue'), which is inappropriate for an academic report. Consequently, the task achievement is limited by underdeveloped overview characteristics and subjective commentary.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is structured into a single long paragraph followed by a brief concluding sentence, rather than logical paragraphing. The overall organization lacks clear progression. While the student attempts transitional phrases such as 'If we start from', 'However', and 'Other then that', the use of cohesive devices is sometimes awkward or repetitive. Referencing and logical transitions between the description of past trends and the final conclusion are weak. Paragraphing is not used effectively to separate the introduction, overview, and body details, which pulls the score down into the Band 5 range.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for basic communication but is heavily limited and repetitive. Words such as 'sector', 'jobs', 'opportunities', and 'trend' are used frequently. There are noticeable lexical and spelling errors, such as 'manufacting' instead of 'manufacturing', 'desclining' instead of 'declining', and 'Other then that' instead of 'Other than that'. The range of vocabulary is restricted mostly to common terms, and attempts at less common lexical items are largely absent or imprecise, placing this response firmly in the Band 5 category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most sentences are simple or poorly coordinated complex structures. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as missing articles ('the graph illustrate', 'manufacting sector contains the highest job'), subject-verb agreement issues ('the sectors like retail and healthcare they both has shown'), and prepositional errors ('in the tenure of'). Punctuation is also weak, leading to run-on sentences that require extra effort from the reader to parse. These frequent errors restrict the score to Band 5.
