Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student attempts to summarise the main features of the graph, identifying general trends for all four sectors (healthcare and retail increasing, manufacturing and agriculture decreasing). However, the response is incomplete as it cuts off mid-sentence at the end ("the number ofjobs of Manu"). Furthermore, the word count is only 130 words, falling short of the 150-word minimum requirement. This under-length impacts the overall development of the task. While key data points such as the 1960 and 2020 figures for retail and healthcare are mentioned, the incomplete nature of the response prevents it from achieving a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text demonstrates a basic organizational structure with an introductory sentence and an overview. The student attempts to use transition phrases such as "Focusing on the increases first" and "By contrast". However, paragraphing is underdeveloped, and cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or awkwardly placed (e.g., "retail jobs started was six million in 1960 over the six dacades it increases a signficant increase..."). Progression is disrupted by run-on sentences and grammatical errors that obscure logical links between ideas. Additionally, the text cuts off abruptly, affecting the overall coherence of the conclusion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for a basic summary of the visual data, including terms like "sectors", "economy", "decreased", and "dramatically". However, there are numerous spelling and word-form errors throughout the text, such as "employes" (employees), "retails" (retail), "agriclture" (agriculture), "dacades" (decades), and "decresed contineously" (decreased continuously). The range of vocabulary is limited, and these frequent lexical and orthographic errors restrict the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors, run-on sentences, and missing verbs or prepositions (e.g., "the number of retail jobs started was six million in 1960 over the six dacades it increases a signficant increase..."). Punctuation is also neglected, with missing commas and periods leading to fused sentences. Because the response is unfinished, it also lacks structural completeness. These frequent errors occasionally cause strain for the reader.
