Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response covers all four sectors shown in the graph and attempts to report the main features and trends over the 60-year period. However, there are several inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, the student states that healthcare jobs started at 2.5 million in 1960 (the graph shows approximately 2 million), and claims that manufacturing jobs declined by 1 million from the 'first year in 2020' (the actual figures are 15 million in 1960 and 13 million in 2020, representing a drop of 2 million). Furthermore, the overview at the end is somewhat simplistic and contains awkward phrasing regarding 'rest of two jobs'. While the main trends are touched upon, the lack of precision in reading the data and under-developed overview places this in Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text is divided into logical paragraphs, including an introduction, body paragraphs for specific sectors, and a concluding overview. However, cohesion within and between sentences is often faulty and mechanical. The student uses basic cohesive links like 'To start with', 'Moreover', and 'overall', but the logical progression is frequently disrupted by poor referencing and abrupt transitions (e.g., 'after 2000, number of jobs in retail increased and in decreased that was 16 millions for formerd and almost 3 millions for later'). Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion lacks smooth flow. These issues align well with the Band 5 descriptors for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a limited range of vocabulary adequate for basic communication, utilizing terms such as 'increased', 'declined', 'sector', and 'economy'. However, there are numerous lexical errors and inappropriate word choices, such as 'four kind of jobs', 'rised' instead of rose, 'deopped' instead of dropped, 'formerd' instead of former, and 'jods' instead of jobs. Attempts to use less common vocabulary are constrained by frequent spelling mistakes and awkward collocations (e.g., 'people showed less interest to do jobs in rest of two jobs'). The vocabulary is minimally adequate for the task but contains noticeable errors that occasionally impede understanding.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response features a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but grammatical accuracy is quite low. There are frequent errors in verb tense consistency (e.g., mixing present and past forms like 'The line graph compared... are in healthcare'), missing articles (e.g., 'in US', 'in manufacturing'), incorrect prepositions, and structural confusion (e.g., 'that was 16 millions for formerd and almost 3 millions for later in 2020'). Punctuation and capitalization are also problematic, with multiple spaces and missing capital letters for proper nouns like 'united state'. While simple sentences are generally understandable, complex formulations are frequently faulty, consistent with a Band 5 score.
