Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The student attempts to address the task by reporting information on the four economic sectors between 1960 and 2020. However, there are significant inaccuracies in the data reporting. For instance, the text claims that in 1960 manufacturing jobs increased rapidly from 15 to 20 million, whereas 15 million was the starting point in 1960, and it rose to 20 million by 1980. Furthermore, the overview provided in the conclusion is factually incorrect and confused, stating that the maximum number of jobs were in the health sector in the 'former year' (1960), when healthcare actually started at its lowest point (2 million) and peaked later. Because of these data misinterpretations and lack of a clear, accurate overview, the response falls into Band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text is divided into four paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Some cohesive devices are attempted, such as 'Moreover', 'further scrutinising', and 'In incapsulation', but many of these are unnatural, misapplied, or incorrectly punctuated. Paragraphing is used, but the overall progression is hampered by confusing transitions and erratic referencing. For example, 'after that, it decreased very fast' lacks a clear antecedent. Cohesion is frequently faulty and mechanical, leading to a Band 5 score.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is often inappropriate, unnatural, or heavily influenced by misuse of dictionary synonyms and templates. Examples include phrases like 'requisite cumulation apropos', 'fleeting glance', 'zenith point', and 'incapsulation'. There are also frequent spelling and word-form errors, such as 'detail' instead of 'retail', 'increase' instead of 'increased', and 'reach' instead of 'reached'. While the student attempts less common vocabulary, the high frequency of inaccurate word choice and collocation impedes communication and limits the score to Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0 based on general adequacy of topic words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response shows a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting mostly of simple or overly simplistic sentences with frequent errors. There are numerous basic mistakes involving tense consistency, prepositions, articles, and capitalization (e.g., lowercase letters at the start of sentences like 'at the fleeting glance' and 'in 1980 the job...'). Sentences such as 'job in farming is at 5 million in 1960 after that, it decreased very fast' display run-on structures and incorrect tense shifts. Frequent grammatical errors cause constant difficulty for the reader, fitting the Band 5 descriptor.
