Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover the main trends in the four economic sectors, identifying overall movements such as the rise and fall in manufacturing and the continuous growth in retail and healthcare. However, there are significant weaknesses. First, the text fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 150 words, containing only 141 words. Second, the student misidentifies the visual aid by calling it a 'bar graph' instead of a line graph. Furthermore, the final sentence strays into unsupported speculation regarding 'educated people,' which is not depicted in the data. While the general directions of the trends are mentioned, the lack of specific data points or accurate comparisons keeps this response at Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text suffers from poor paragraphing, as it consists of a single block of text rather than clearly divided paragraphs for an introduction, overview, and body details. Cohesive devices are either missing or overly simplistic, relying on repetitive phrases like 'we can see' and 'if we are talking about.' Logical progression is hampered by conversational filler at the beginning, such as 'As we can see the bar graph,' which is inappropriate for an academic task. Referencing is also weak, with ambiguous pronouns like 'that's create' and 'these comparison.' Overall arrangement lacks a polished structure, justifying a score of 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive ('sector,' 'jobs,' 'growth,' 'downfall'). There are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'jobs availability were in just increasing mode' and 'a lot opportunity for the employee in these year.' The student also incorrectly identifies the chart type as a 'bar graph' instead of a line graph. Spelling and morphological errors are present, such as 'yhere' and 'drasticall.' While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the basic trends, the frequent errors and limited range place it firmly at Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The grammatical range is extremely limited, relying mostly on simple or faulty complex structures. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('there us four sector,' 'jobs availability were'), tense inconsistencies, and punctuation errors. Run-on sentences and missing capitalization at the beginning of sentences (e.g., 'we are seeing,' 'first one') further detract from the quality. The numerous errors frequently cause difficulty for the reader and demonstrate poor control over basic sentence construction, resulting in a band score of 5.0.
