Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student attempts to cover the main features of the line chart, noting initial and final data points as well as some trends across the four sectors. However, there are significant factual inaccuracies regarding the visual data. For instance, the student states that the agriculture sector 'showed drastically rise from 1960 to 2020, it recorded at 3 million to 16 millions in 2020,' whereas the graph clearly shows agriculture starting at 6 million and declining to 2 million. Furthermore, the healthcare sector is misdescribed as showing 'less improvements' and falling down from its initial value, when in fact healthcare experienced a substantial growth from 2 million to 16 million. While an overview is attempted, these severe data misinterpretations pull the score down to Band 5.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, attempting an introduction, body details, and a brief summary. However, the progression is disjointed and awkward transitions like 'To begin with,' 'Probing futher,' and 'In summary' feel mechanical and forced. Referencing and cohesion are frequently faulty, leading to a lack of overall clarity. For example, sentences are sometimes run-on or unpunctuated, such as 'healthcare showed less improvements an d fell down from its intial value.' Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within the body paragraphs lacks logical flow, placing this text firmly at Band 5.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently revolving around simple terms like 'jobs,' 'sectors,' 'economy,' and 'millions.' There are notable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'reached at peak,' 'it accouted at,' and 'showed drastically rise' (instead of dramatic rise). The student also misspells words like 'accouted' (accounted), 'futher' (further), 'agriculter' (agriculture), and 'intial' (initial). While the range is minimally adequate to discuss numbers and economic sectors, the frequent lexical errors and lack of sophisticated phrasing restrict the score to Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and prepositions, such as 'it had went down,' 'had registered at,' and 'it recorded at same level.' Sentence structures often become clumsy or ungrammatical, as seen in 'manufacturing sector at peak then went down, other side retail and agriculter had made progress.' Punctuation and spelling errors are also persistent throughout the text. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect the descriptors for Band 5.
