Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to cover the main features of the graph comparing four economic sectors in the US from 1960 to 2020. However, there are significant flaws in data interpretation. For instance, the student states that the agriculture sector maintained a steady market till 2020, whereas the chart clearly shows a sharp decline from 6 million to 2 million. Additionally, the overview section contains inaccurate summaries, claiming that two sectors grew and the other two remained steady, which ignores the decline in manufacturing and agriculture. While all sectors are mentioned, the lack of accurate reporting and underdeveloped comparisons keep this criterion at Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay lacks proper paragraphing, with lines broken haphazardly and introductory elements isolated from the body. Cohesive devices are minimal or mechanically applied, such as the repeated use of 'till' and 'while'. There is no clear progression of ideas across the text, and the transitions between sentences are abrupt. Referencing is also weak, as seen in the phrase 'B2C sector', which was not previously introduced or defined in the data provided. Overall, the structural and cohesive weaknesses correspond to a Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, with several spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'millinon', 'significanlty', and 'emoloyement'. The student attempts some less common terms like 'declining', 'fluctuated', or 'upward curve', but accuracy is compromised by frequent mistakes ('health care sector graph illustrates a upward curve'). Furthermore, 'B2C sector' is an inappropriate substitution for retail in this context. These issues place lexical resource firmly at Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple or faulty complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('jobs in manufacturing industry has increased') and missing articles ('Vertical side demonstrate number of jobs'). Punctuation is also neglected, with lowercase beginnings for sentences and missing periods. Due to the frequent errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, a Band 5.0 is appropriate.
