Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response attempts to address the task by selecting information from the graph regarding the four employment sectors between 1960 and 2020. However, the coverage is only partial and lacks clarity. While the writer mentions healthcare, retail, agriculture, and manufacturing, the ideas and figures are limited, under-developed, and occasionally inaccurate or confusing, such as stating that healthcare reaches '5 million in the 1980' when the graph shows 5 million, but then presenting data in a disjointed way. The overview is weak, consisting of vague statements rather than a clear summary of main trends. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to provide a clear, distinct overview of the overall trends from the chart and select and report the main features with accurate data referencing throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
Information and ideas are not arranged coherently in this response. There is a complete lack of paragraphing, with the entire text presented as a single, dense block of writing. Furthermore, the progression of ideas is difficult to follow, and the use of cohesive devices is inadequate or faulty, as seen in abrupt and confusing transitions such as 'other 2 sector in which retail sector equal to the first one reachs the high amount'. References between sentences are often unclear, making it hard for the reader to follow which sector is being discussed. To improve, the writer must organise the response into clear paragraphs—such as an introduction with an overview, followed by logical body paragraphs grouping the sectors—and use appropriate cohesive devices to connect ideas smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer relies on basic terms and repeats words frequently, while also making noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling, such as 'shoes' instead of 'shows', 'comapred' instead of 'compared', and 'aproximately' instead of 'approximately'. Less common lexical items are rarely attempted, and when they are, inaccuracies occur, such as 'reaches the high amount' or 'goes the lowest of his amount'. These errors and the limited range occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the writer should expand their vocabulary to include precise terms for describing data trends, such as nouns and verbs indicating upward or downward movement, and pay closer attention to spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple or poorly constructed sentences that contain frequent errors. There are numerous grammatical issues throughout the text, including missing articles, incorrect prepositions, and faulty verb tenses and agreement, such as 'this graph shoes the number of jobs selected' and 'manufacturing began 15 million goes little high'. Attempts at complex structures are faulty, and frequent punctuation errors—such as a lack of proper sentence boundaries and lower-case letters at the beginning of sentences—distort meaning and cause difficulty for the reader. To move up, the writer needs to improve sentence control, ensure proper subject-verb agreement, use correct verb tenses for past data, and maintain accurate punctuation and capitalization.
