Number of jobs in four sectors of the economy in the US, 1960-2020
Student answer (Band 5.0)
A glance at the given graph depicts data about the number of jobs in four sectors of the economy which includes Manufacturing,Retail, Agriculture and healthcare in the US between Era 1960 and 2020.
Figure clearly shows there are plenty of jobs in US Market in the year 1960 where first we make an eye out for Healthcare profession that shows 3 million jobs vacancies where healthcare edge up and grow constantly with numbers 5 million in 1980 also 11 million in 2000 and 15.5 million in 2020 this values clearly predicts future of healthcare is still edging up.
Meanwhile moving towards the fields of Retail and Agriculture both have there own results which are very different so in 1960 graph clearly shows numbers of this occupations is around 6 million but it observed that agriculture profession faced Decline marginally till 1980 and remained almost stable till 2000 at this point this particular profession needed to increase steadily but results again shows that after 2000 agriculture Fall gradually till the year 2020 but if we move eye towards reatil positions started with same point and it got incline sharply with 10 million vocation in 1980 after this still we observed it got climb dramatically till the period 2000 with 15million posts till the period 2000 graph rose sharply but after 2000 we noticed steady and slow rise in this employement .
The line graph illustrates for manufaturing which is still having more number of jobs in compare with few other sector, line graph in 1960 shows the value this occupation was very on demand with compare to retail, agriculture and healthcare so starting from 15 million posting and gradually increasing till 20 million posting shows the value of this occupation till 1980 but after 1980's table turned and Manufacturing occupation face a challenge of very high drop so at last in 2020 manufactuing sector shows only 14 million opening which is very low in compare with retail and healthcare.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task only partially because the information provided contains numerous inaccuracies and unsupported figures when compared to the visual data. For instance, the text states that healthcare started at '3 million jobs vacancies' in 1960, whereas the graph indicates approximately 2 million. Similarly, manufacturing in 2020 is reported as '14 million' instead of the approximately 13 million shown. While the response attempts to summarize the main trends, the lack of precision and the mechanical listing of data points without a clear, concise overview limit the effectiveness of the report. To reach a higher level, the student must ensure that all reported data accurately reflects the source graph and includes a well-defined, synthesized overview of the main economic shifts.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response demonstrates some overall organization and attempts to divide information by sectors into different paragraphs, but there is no clear logical progression across the text as a whole. Cohesive devices are often inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, relying heavily on informal conversational transitions like 'meanwhile moving towards', 'if we make an eye out', and 'if we move eye towards'. Furthermore, paragraphing is somewhat blurred, with retail and agriculture being bundled together in an overly long, run-on paragraph, while manufacturing is discussed separately at the end. To improve cohesion, the student should use standard, formal academic linking phrases and ensure that each paragraph has a distinct, logically sequenced focus.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common vocabulary items such as 'edge up', 'decline marginally', and 'fall gradually', but these are often accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and phrasing, such as 'vocation' instead of 'vacation' or 'opening', and 'table turned'. There are also awkward lexical collocations and spelling slips throughout the text, such as 'manufaturing' and 'reatil'. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the vocabulary from achieving the flexibility and precision required for higher bands. Expanding the range of precise economic vocabulary and carefully checking spelling and word forms will help elevate this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The grammatical range is limited, relying mostly on a mix of simple and complex sentence forms that frequently contain structural faults. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, such as run-on sentences, missing articles, and awkward clausal constructions like 'Figure clearly shows there are plenty of jobs in US Market in the year 1960 where first we make an eye out for Healthcare profession that shows...'. Prepositions and verb tense agreements are also inconsistently handled, such as 'manufactuing sector shows only 14 million opening which is very low in compare with retail'. These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, the student needs to focus on producing grammatically sound complex sentences, breaking down overly long run-on sentences, and maintaining accurate control over basic grammatical structures.
