Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response falls slightly short of the 150-word minimum requirement. While the student attempts to describe the main trends, the overview is confused by inaccurate information, such as stating that 'agriculture progress remains same' when the graph clearly shows a downward trend from 6 million to 2 million jobs. Data is reported partially and sometimes incorrectly, for instance, claiming agriculture accounted for a relatively large number of jobs in 1960 without accurate comparative perspective, and misinterpreting manufacturing trends. The position is not always clear, and key features of the graph are under-developed or inaccurately summarised, limiting the effectiveness of the report.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The writing shows some organization into paragraphs, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are minimal, mechanical, or inaccurately used, such as the repetitive use of 'Overall' and loose transitional phrases like 'on the other hand manufacturing is not in stable state.' Paragraphing is attempted, but sentences within paragraphs lack smooth logical links. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of data across the years.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable lexical errors, word choice inaccuracies, and spelling mistakes that occasionally cause difficulty, such as 'increase considerabley' instead of considerably, 'manufacutring' instead of manufacturing, and 'comparetively' instead of comparatively. The student attempts some less common terms like 'employment' and 'progress', but struggles with appropriate collocations and word forms, such as 'very fluctuation' instead of fluctuating significantly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
There is a very limited range of sentence structures, with frequent basic errors. The student relies heavily on simple sentences and attempts at complex structures are often faulty. Grammatical errors include missing articles ('in four sectors of US'), incorrect verb tenses and forms ('the line of graph illustrate', 'its graph began fallen', 'when it shows its lowest'), and punctuation issues. These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a weak control of grammatical mechanics.
