Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task only partially. While the student attempts to report the main features of the four economic sectors, the ideas are limited and under-developed, and the selection of data is sometimes inaccurate or confusing. For instance, the statement that healthcare plunged from 10 million to 16 million contradicts the visual data, where healthcare actually grew steadily from 2 million in 1960 to 16 million in 2020. Furthermore, the overview is extremely basic, stating simply that the graph shows the rise and fall in jobs for economy corporation, lacking a clear summary of the overall trends such as the significant growth in healthcare and retail versus the decline in agriculture and manufacturing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is some basic organization with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding remark, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas throughout the response. Paragraphing is attempted, but the logical link between sentences is frequently disrupted by awkward referencing and mechanical cohesion. For example, expressions like The different signs demonstrate the different jobs and At first, in 1960 healthcare shared a below 5 million contribution in economy generation create disjointed transitions. Additionally, repetitive phrasing and unclear pronoun referencing hinder the smooth flow of information.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic concepts related to the graph. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices that cause some difficulty for the reader, such as faciliate to upsurge, economy corporation, pluged, and reatail. The student attempts to use some less common vocabulary items like contribution and continuous downfall, but these are often combined with inappropriate collocations or incorrect word forms, preventing precise communication of the visual data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response exhibits a limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few faulty attempts at complex ones. Frequent errors in grammar and punctuation can cause difficulty and confusion for the reader. Noticeable issues include subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., its has curves and turns, manufacturing vividly be seen as it stood a continuous downfall), missing articles (e.g., in agriculture), and prepositional errors. Punctuation and spacing issues, such as double spaces and misplaced commas, further weaken grammatical control.
