Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the task by mentioning the four sectors shown in the graph, but it only partially covers the information. While the writer notes some trends, such as manufacturing peaking in 1980 and agriculture decreasing, the overview is weak, and some data points are inaccurate or poorly integrated. Furthermore, the opening sentence provides irrelevant background about people starting businesses rather than focusing on the prompt. To reach a higher band, the response needs a clear, well-defined overview of the main trends and more accurate reporting of the data without drifting into personal speculation at the end.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The text suffers from a lack of clear overall progression and mechanical cohesion. The response is presented almost as a single block of text with inadequate paragraphing. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes inaccurate, such as using 'At last' to introduce agricultural data. Referencing is also weak, making it difficult to follow the progression of ideas between sentences. To improve, the writer should structure the response with clear paragraphs, use a wider range of cohesive devices appropriately, and ensure a logical flow of information from the introduction to the body and overview.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. There are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form, such as 'retial', 'woth', 'most less job', and mixing up nouns and verbs like 'roses' instead of 'rose'. The range of vocabulary is restricted, and attempts at less common words often result in unnatural phrasing or inaccuracies. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to expand their range of vocabulary related to data reporting, ensure correct word forms and spelling, and use more precise terminology to describe trends and changes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The grammatical range is limited, consisting mostly of simple and flawed complex sentence structures. There are frequent errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and articles throughout the text, such as 'many fluctuations occur', 'it decreases', and 'there is fluctuations'. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and impede smooth communication. To move up, the writer must demonstrate better control over basic grammatical structures, maintain consistent past tenses when describing historical data, and reduce the frequency of grammatical errors.
