Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features and making relevant comparisons across the four economic sectors. The overview correctly highlights the general upward or downward trajectories, such as the growth in Healthcare and Retail alongside the decline in Agriculture. Key data points are selected and reported, such as Manufacturing peaking at 20 million in 1980 and Retail and Healthcare both reaching 16 million in 2020. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or imprecise in their reporting, sitting comfortably at the halfway mark between meeting core requirements and fully extending all main trends.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
There is a coherent overall arrangement to the response, with a clear introduction, an overview paragraph, and detailed body paragraphs examining specific trends. Paragraphing is used appropriately to group information by sectors and time periods. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, with awkward transitions between sentences like 'at time it was 20 millions then it fell sharply' and repetitive structural patterns. Referencing and cohesive links could be managed more flexibly to achieve a smoother, more natural progression of ideas throughout the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully attempting less common lexical items related to data trends such as 'increased considerably', 'rose steadily', and 'declined'. However, there are noticeable spelling errors ('avelable', 'Unayted State', 'decrise', 'incvrise', 'avery', 'aprox') and word-form errors ('boj') that reflect a limited and developing lexical range. While communication is generally maintained despite these slips, the frequency of errors prevents the response from achieving a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence forms, but control is weak with frequent grammatical errors. There are persistent issues with article usage ('the Manufacturing was a upward jobs'), subject-verb agreement ('The number of jobs are avelable', 'The Retail and Healthcare was'), prepositions, and tense consistency. Complex structures often contain faults, and punctuation errors are common. These errors require some effort from the reader to interpret, keeping the grammatical performance firmly within the lower-mid range.
