Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response attempts to cover all parts of the task by mentioning the four sectors and their general trends between 1960 and 2020. However, the overview is limited, simply stating that three sectors show an upward trend and one shows a decline without adequately capturing the broader picture. Furthermore, some of the data reported contains inaccuracies or awkward phrasing, such as misstating the starting figures for healthcare or misinterpreting the final data points. Ideas are present and relevant, but they lack full development and precise reporting of the visual data, placing the task response at this level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay demonstrates some organization with a basic division into paragraphs, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or repetitive, with run-on sentences and excessive use of 'and' or 'where as' to connect clauses. For instance, the transition between the manufacturing and healthcare trends lacks logical signposting, resulting in a dense block of text that is difficult to follow. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the mechanical flow prevents the response from achieving a higher level of cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common topic-related vocabulary such as 'occupations' and 'engaged', but these are often used with inappropriate collocations or word forms. There are noticeable errors in word choice, such as using 'millions peoples' instead of 'million people' or 'millions', and spelling or word-formation issues like 'geadually' instead of 'gradually'. These lexical inaccuracies cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted range of vocabulary appropriate for academic writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing relies on a very limited range of grammatical structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, leading to run-on sentences lacking proper punctuation. There are frequent errors in verb tense consistency, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'economy of US' missing the article, and clauses joined incorrectly without periods or conjunctions. Punctuation is largely absent throughout the text, creating long strings of clauses that obscure the meaning and require the reader to work harder to parse the sentences.
