Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response addresses the task only partially and fails to meet the core requirements of an Academic Task 1 report. Instead of summarising and comparing the visual data regarding the four economic sectors between 1960 and 2020, the student drifts into irrelevant personal commentary and generalisations about the American GDP, the value of the dollar, and the impact of artificial intelligence. While a few figures are mentioned, such as '15 million to 20 millions', they are misapplied and lack a clear overview of the overall trends shown in the line graph, such as the dramatic rise of healthcare and retail compared to the decline of agriculture and manufacturing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response demonstrates some overall organisation with basic attempts at paragraphing and transitional phrases like 'Firstly' and 'In conclusion', but information and ideas are not arranged coherently. The progression of ideas is disrupted by sudden shifts into irrelevant commentary about technology rather than adhering to the data structure. Additionally, cohesive devices are inadequate and repetitive, and referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow a logical development of points across the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, employing simple terms like 'jobs', 'sectors', and 'economy' throughout. There are noticeable lexical errors, such as 'ecomy' instead of economy, and inappropriate word choices or collocations like 'the job ratio' and 'too reliable' when describing macroeconomic indicators. These errors and the limited range of vocabulary restrict precision and cause some difficulty for the reader, fitting the level of a basic, restricted lexical repertoire.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer uses a very limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences or clauses are frequently faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues such as 'The job ratio ... were', incorrect prepositions like 'in between years', and faulty pluralisation or article use. Punctuation and word forms also show persistent inaccuracies, resulting in sentences where frequent errors can cause difficulty and strain for the reader.
