Number of jobs in four sectors of the economy in the US, 1960-2020
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The graph demostrate the data of number of jobs in four sectors. In 1960, manufacturing was the most demanded job sector. While the other three sector had also played an important role in the economy. Manufacturing was demanded the most because it was the latest field and start of this field. From 1960 to 1980 manufacturing number of jobs increased but from 1980 and so on its demand started decreasing. Healthcare sector was in very bad position since 1960 but in 2020 it became the most demanded sector. This was a big milestone for this sector. One more sector that was continous improving from recent year is retail. It had also achieved an excellent success in job sector. But the fourth one sector of agriculture did'nt progress anymore may be due to less focus and care of government. These four sectors played in important role in the economy of us since 1960.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the task by outlining general trends for some sectors shown in the graph, such as manufacturing and healthcare. However, the coverage is only partial and lacks precision. Key features, such as the exact starting points and overall trajectories, are not fully reported, and some descriptions are inaccurate or vague, such as stating that healthcare was in a 'very bad position' rather than simply starting with fewer jobs. Furthermore, there is no clear overview provided to summarise the main overall trends across the 60-year period, which limits the development of the response and prevents it from fully satisfying the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response lacks a clear overall progression. Ideas are presented in a sequence of single sentences without adequate paragraphing to structure the response properly. The use of cohesive devices is weak, mechanical, or inaccurate, such as starting a sentence with 'While the other three sector had also played...' which results in a sentence fragment. Referencing is also problematic in places, making it difficult to follow the logical links between ideas. While there is a basic attempt to sequence the historical data chronologically, the overall organization remains disjointed and hinders the flow of information.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling. For instance, 'demostrate' contains a spelling error, and phrases like 'most demanded job sector' or 'continous improving' show awkward collocation and incorrect word forms. The vocabulary relies heavily on repetitive and simplistic terms to describe data trends, which restricts precision. Although the reader can generally grasp the intended meaning, the frequent lexical inaccuracies and limited repertoire prevent the writing from achieving a higher level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The grammatical structures used are limited and repetitive, consisting mostly of simple sentences alongside faulty attempts at complex ones. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('the other three sector had also'), missing articles ('in economy of us'), and incorrect verb tenses ('start of this field'). Punctuation and sentence boundaries are also handled poorly, leading to fragmented ideas like 'While the other three sector had also played...'. These persistent errors and the narrow range of structures cause occasional difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted control of grammar.
