Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response successfully covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features, trends, and comparisons across the four economic sectors. An overview is provided, noting the upward trends in healthcare and retail alongside the downward trends in manufacturing and agriculture. Key data points are selected and reported accurately, such as the peak for manufacturing in 1980 and the starting points in 1960. While the ideas are adequately extended and supported to meet the requirements of this band, the overview could be slightly more integrated, and some specific trends could be grouped more logically to reach higher levels of task fulfillment.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response demonstrates a clear overall progression and logical organisation throughout. Information about the sectors is grouped into paragraphs, distinguishing between upward and downward trends. Cohesive devices such as 'whereas', 'followed by', and 'while' are used to connect ideas, though referencing is occasionally mechanical or repetitive. Paragraphing is present and helps structure the text, but the first two paragraphs lack full supporting development, functioning more like an extended introduction rather than distinct body paragraphs, which keeps the structural fluidity at this level.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with appropriate topic-specific terms such as 'manufacturing', 'retail', 'agriculture', and 'healthcare'. The student attempts less common vocabulary like 'significantly', 'approximatey', and 'decline', but there are noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'display' instead of 'displays', 'retails' instead of 'retail', and 'roughtly' instead of 'roughly'. These errors do not impede communication, but they reflect a limited control over less common lexical items, preventing the writing from achieving a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The text displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures with relative clauses and subordinate conjunctions. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly missing articles ('The graph display number of jobs'), incorrect verb forms ('increase' instead of 'increased'), and punctuation issues. Subject-verb agreement is also weak in places, such as 'number of jobs... shows'. These errors occur regularly and require some effort from the reader to decode, which places the response firmly within this grammatical range.
