Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word length requirement, stopping abruptly at just over a hundred words. The student attempts to address the prompt by selecting some key features, such as the peak of manufacturing in 1980 and the upward trend of retail and healthcare. However, the information is only partially reported, and the data contains inaccuracies, such as stating that manufacturing reaches 13 million in '2025' when the graph ends in 2020, and abruptly ending mid-sentence. The overview is overly simplistic, and the overall treatment of the task remains underdeveloped due to the severe lack of length and incomplete analysis.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is an attempt to structure the response with an introductory sentence and an overall summary, but the organization lacks clear overall progression. Paragraphing is fragmented, with the third paragraph cutting off mid-thought. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes mechanical, such as 'Overall, It can be clearly seen' and 'In 1960'. Referencing is occasionally confusing, and the lack of a fully developed body makes the logical flow difficult to follow. To improve, the student needs to group data more logically and connect sentences smoothly using a wider variety of cohesive markers.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and basic, reflecting a minimally adequate range for the task. There are several noticeable lexical errors, such as 'fourty' instead of forty, 'meausred' instead of measured, 'decresing' instead of decreasing, and 'steadly' instead of steadily, alongside word choice issues like 'number of vacancy' instead of number of jobs. These errors occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader. To reach a higher band, the student should incorporate a wider range of less common vocabulary with greater precision, improve spelling accuracy, and use more natural collocations when describing statistical data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text relies on a limited range of simple and basic complex structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including capitalization and punctuation issues like 'Overall, It can be clearly seen', missing plural forms or incorrect subject-verb agreement such as 'manufacturing is the leading sectors', and preposition errors. Attempts at complex sentence forms are often faulty or incomplete, as seen in the final unfinished sentence. These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, the student needs to demonstrate better control over basic sentence construction, punctuation, tense consistency, and subject-verb agreement.
