Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You report several key figures and trends, including manufacturing’s peak at 20 million in 1980 and the growth of retail and healthcare by 2000. However, the overview mainly identifies the chart’s symbols rather than summarising its main patterns. There are also important inaccuracies: healthcare starts at about 2 million, not 3, and rises to about 16 million by 2020; it does not fall to 3 million. Agriculture is about 3 million in both 1980 and 2000, then 2 million in 2020, rather than 4 million in the earlier years. To make the response more complete, give a concise overview of the contrasting long-term trends and check each endpoint against the graph.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic chronological structure, moving from 1960 through 1980 and 2000 to 2020, and paragraph breaks help separate the introduction, overview and details. However, the overview does not provide a clear progression of the main trends, and the final paragraph is confusing: it says manufacturing is “still on top” in 2000, then concludes that retail and healthcare “came on top” in 2020 without clearly distinguishing their equal values from manufacturing’s lower figure. Linking words such as “However,” “Moreover” and “In addition” are used, but some connections are mechanical or do not clarify the comparison. Grouping the rising sectors together and the declining sectors together would make the information easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “job market,” “growth,” “fall” and “million,” so the reader can generally identify the subject and direction of change. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate or repetitive, such as “the data of number of jobs,” “arise with” and “manufacturing dominate.” Spelling errors including “wich,” “descrase” and “decrease” (used incorrectly in “slightly decrease”) also reduce precision. Aim for standard reporting collocations such as “the number of jobs,” “rose to,” “declined to” and “accounted for.” More accurate verbs for trends would help you describe the data clearly without repeatedly relying on “shows” and “with.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some complex sentences using contrast and time clauses, for example, “Although in year 2020 manufacturing fall to 13 million,” but errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to interpret. Verb forms and agreement are recurring problems: “manufacturing dominate,” “retail and healthcare shows,” and “manufacturing fall” need appropriate tense and agreement. Articles and sentence construction are also inconsistent, as in “the healthcare have lowest jobs” and “After 2 decade manufacturing is still dominate.” Most sentences follow simple patterns, with limited accurate variety. Practise past-tense reporting and build sentences around clear subjects and verbs; then check articles, plurals and punctuation when editing.
