Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the broad contrast between growth in manufacturing, retail and healthcare and decline in agriculture, and you mention several relevant changes. However, the overview is not fully accurate: retail and healthcare do not both rise throughout the period, since retail is level from 2000 to 2020, while healthcare continues to rise. Some details are also unclear or incorrect. For example, manufacturing peaks in 1980, not after its “first ten year,” and healthcare rises substantially after 1980 rather than merely showing an unclear “shout” in its numbers. Include the key comparisons and anchor them with accurate figures, such as manufacturing falling from 20 million to 13 million after 1980, while retail and healthcare reach about 16 million by 2020.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response has a basic overall shape: an introduction, an attempted overview, and descriptions of individual sectors. This gives the reader some sense of the chart’s subject and broad trends. However, ideas are not arranged in a clear progression, and the final paragraph repeats points already made rather than adding a useful comparison. Time references such as “first ten year” and “first twenty year” are confusing, while transitions including “after that” are repeated without clearly identifying the relevant period. Grouping the sectors by contrasting trends and using a separate, concise overview would make the organisation easier to follow. Clearer links between each time period and its data would also improve cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “increase,” “decline,” “stable,” and “sharply,” so the reader can recognise the main kinds of change you are describing. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate enough to make parts difficult to interpret. “Completely stable” does not describe agriculture accurately, as it falls again by 2020, and “shout of the number of jobs” does not communicate a clear trend. There are also spelling errors such as “agriculture,” “healthcare,” and “slightly.” Aim for precise trend language and vary it with expressions such as “rose steadily,” “remained unchanged,” and “fell gradually,” ensuring each phrase matches the data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
Most sentences are simple, and you attempt some longer structures to describe changes over time. However, grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make the intended meaning unclear. For example, “this graph illustrate” has subject–verb disagreement, while “in horizontal axis shows” lacks a clear grammatical subject and article. The sentence “in overall three jobs … are increasing” also has an unclear structure, and several sentences join ideas without appropriate punctuation. Use a reliable pattern such as “The number of jobs in manufacturing rose from … to …” and check articles, verb forms, plurals, and sentence boundaries. More accurate simple sentences would help before you attempt longer comparisons.
