Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response identifies the chart’s subject and attempts to describe trends, but several central features are misreported. Manufacturing was the largest sector only in 1960 and 1980; by 2020, retail and healthcare were joint highest at about 16 million. Agriculture was not the second-largest sector, and it did not rise from 1960 to 1980: it fell from about 6 million to 3 million, then declined slightly. The response also gives no accurate overview of the contrasting growth in retail and healthcare. It is 13 words below the 150-word minimum, which further limits the coverage. To improve, select the main trends, compare the sectors accurately, and support them with key figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response, beginning with an introduction, moving to descriptions, and ending with “In conclusion.” However, the progression is difficult to follow because the sector comparisons are unclear and some statements contradict one another: agriculture is called both the “second highest” and the “lowest.” Linking phrases such as “Like wise” and “however” are used, but they do not consistently clarify the relationships between ideas. The final sentence repeats the chart’s topic rather than summarising its main trends. Grouping the information into a clear overview and two comparison paragraphs, with each paragraph focused on related sectors, would make the report easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “highest,” “lowest,” “declined,” and “jobs in millions,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, such as “slowly inclined” for an increase and “it also incline.” “Different name and numbers” is vague, while “first jobs which had lowest economy” does not express a clear chart feature. There are also spelling errors, including “Nmuber” and “grpah.” Use precise trend language such as “rose,” “fell,” “remained stable,” and “reached,” and name the sectors directly when making comparisons.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts both simple and longer sentences, but grammatical control is inconsistent. For example, “in the x axis it includes about jobs in millions where as, in the y axis it include year” has faulty sentence structure and subject–verb agreement; the axes are also described in the wrong order. Verb forms are often incorrect, as in “it also incline” and “it was inclined in 1960 to 1980.” Capitalisation and punctuation are uneven, including “Like wise, The” and sentence fragments or run-on phrasing. These errors make several statements hard to interpret. Practise accurate past-tense descriptions and build clear sentences with a subject and verb, such as “Retail employment rose from 6 million to 16 million.”
