Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the broad pattern that agriculture was the smallest sector and note the strong rise in healthcare, but the overview contains a major inaccuracy: manufacturing was not the largest in every year, since retail and healthcare both reached about 16 million jobs in 2020, compared with roughly 13 million in manufacturing. Several figures are also misreported: manufacturing was about 17 million in 2000, not 16 million, and healthcare was about 16 million in 2020, not 15.5 million. The claim that agriculture was lowest in only three consecutive years is unclear, as it was the lowest throughout. The response includes relevant comparisons, but incomplete and inaccurate reporting limits how fully it summarises the graph. Prioritise a precise overview and check each key figure against the data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable paragraph structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing sector details. This gives the reader some organisation. However, the progression is not consistently clear because the sectors are grouped and revisited without a clear comparison plan. For example, the manufacturing paragraph shifts to retail, while the final paragraph returns to retail after discussing healthcare. Linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “On the other hand” are repeated or do not always show a meaningful contrast. Some references, including “it” in “in 2020 it was decreased,” are also unclear. Group the sectors by trend or compare them at each date, and use linking phrases only where they clarify the relationship between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “increased,” “decreased,” “sector,” and “jobs,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “multiple jobs,” “jobs in manufacturing area,” “remained on lowest,” and “on its peak.” Repetition of “jobs,” “increased,” and “lowest” also makes the account less precise. Spelling errors such as “Morever,” “feild,” and “consective” further reduce control. Aim for accurate collocations and a wider set of trend verbs, for example “employment in manufacturing,” “fell to,” “stood at,” and “reached a peak.” This would make comparisons clearer and more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including contrasts with “however” and “on the other hand,” but grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships difficult to follow. Subject–verb agreement is inconsistent in “the jobs … is higher,” and articles and prepositions are often missing or incorrect in phrases such as “in manufacturing area” and “on lowest.” Verb forms are also faulty in “it was decreased,” while sentence boundaries and punctuation are inconsistent, including missing spaces after commas and unnecessary spaces before commas. Try to build accurate sentences around clear subjects and verbs, such as “Employment in manufacturing was highest in 1980” and “Healthcare rose steadily, reaching about 16 million in 2020.” Check agreement, tense, and punctuation during revision.
