Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You cover all four sectors and give a clear overview of the main patterns: manufacturing peaks in 1980 and then declines, retail and healthcare rise, and agriculture falls. The supporting figures are generally well selected and close to the chart, including manufacturing’s rise from 15 to 20 million and agriculture’s fall from about 6 to 2 million. You also identify retail and healthcare as the leading sectors by 2020. A few details are imprecise: retail ends at about 16 million, not 15, and healthcare starts at about 2 million, not 3. The overview’s claim that manufacturing is highest for most of the period is broadly supported, but the final comparison could state more precisely that retail and healthcare are joint leaders at around 16 million.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs describing the sector figures. The sequence from the general trends to specific data is easy to follow, and contrasts such as “In contrast” help signal relationships. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or unclear. Repeated use of “increased” and “jobs” makes the account feel list-like, while “Thus it shows” repeats the conclusion without adding information. Some sentence boundaries are also difficult to follow, particularly where clauses run together after “1980” or “2020.” Use clearer sentence separation and vary the way you connect comparisons—for example, group the two rising sectors together and contrast them directly with agriculture.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the main trends, including “decline,” “increased steadily,” “remained stable,” and “growth.” However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems are noticeable. “The number of jobs measures in millions” is an awkward description, and “one of the number of jobs” does not express the intended comparison. There are also misspellings such as “spproximately,” “decresed,” and “nuber,” which reduce precision. Aim for accurate, natural phrases such as “the number of people employed,” “the highest employment levels,” and “fell to.” Check spelling carefully and avoid repeating “increased” when alternatives such as “rose” or “grew” fit.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, and the reader can generally understand the trends. However, the range is limited, and errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, plurals, and punctuation occur often enough to make some sentences awkward. For example, “manufacturing has highest number” needs an article, while “retail and healthcare has shown” has a subject–verb agreement error. Past-tense reporting is also inconsistent: “jobs as reached” should use a past-tense verb, and “It remain same” needs “remained.” Several clauses are joined without clear punctuation, as in the manufacturing and retail descriptions. Practise accurate past-tense sentences and check each subject–verb pairing; then use a few controlled complex sentences to compare trends.
