Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the four sectors and report several relevant figures, including manufacturing at about 15 million in 1960 and 20 million in 1980, and healthcare at about 5 million in 1980. Your overview also recognises growth in retail and healthcare and a decline in agriculture. However, the response covers only the first half of the period: there is no account of the 2000 or 2020 figures, so the main later changes and the eventual convergence of retail and healthcare are missing. Some comparisons are also unclear or inaccurate; for example, agriculture was about 6 million in 1960, not just above 5 million alongside retail, and not every sector increased between 1960 and 1980. Summarise the full period and select the most important comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction to an overview and then to details about 1960 and 1980. This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, progression is limited because the account stops at 1980, and the final paragraph combines several figures in a confusing sequence. Connectors such as “then” and “and at last” do not always make the relationships between the data clear, while the overview repeats broad ideas without organising them into a clear comparison. Use separate, logically ordered paragraphs for the overview and the main trends, and group related sectors or time periods so the reader can follow how the figures change.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some task-relevant terms, including “line graph,” “sectors,” “manufacturing,” “healthcare,” and “agriculture,” and you attempt to describe trends with “increase” and “drop.” However, spelling errors such as “majour,” “setors,” “increament,” and “decreent” are frequent and make parts of the response difficult to read. Several expressions are also imprecise or unnatural, including “job sector in the economy,” “got the data of past,” and “aiming it for decades.” Use accurate forms such as “employment in four sectors” and “the number of jobs,” and choose precise trend language. Proofreading spelling and using familiar collocations consistently would make your meaning clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

There are attempts to form longer sentences and to describe changes over time, but grammatical control is inconsistent. For example, “US having groth” lacks a finite verb, while “Graph having start from the year 1960” has an incorrect verb construction. Tense and agreement are also problematic in “there were less job” and “manufacturing its 20M.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation are unreliable, particularly in the long final paragraph, where several ideas are joined with full stops or “and” without clear structure. These errors sometimes make the intended comparisons hard to understand. Practise accurate simple past forms and complete sentences first, then combine them using controlled clauses such as “while” or “whereas.”
