Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the four sectors and report some relevant figures, including manufacturing’s rise from 15 million to 20 million before falling to about 12 million. You also note that healthcare is among the largest sectors by 2020. However, the response only partially summarises the graph: it omits key comparisons, such as retail’s steady growth and healthcare’s sharp increase, and gives no clear overview of the main trends. The claim that retail jobs increased by “16%” is inaccurate; the chart shows a rise from 6 million to 16 million jobs. Agriculture is described as declining every year, although it remains level at about 3 million between 1980 and 2000. The response is also 11 words below the required minimum. Include a concise overview and compare the main changes accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has some basic organisation: it begins by introducing the chart, then gives details about sectors, and ends with a conclusion. This gives the reader a general sense of the topic. However, progression is limited because the information is not grouped into clear, purposeful comparisons. For example, manufacturing is described in detail, while retail and agriculture receive only brief statements, and healthcare is mentioned only at the end of the second paragraph. Linking expressions such as “Furthermore” and “In conclusion” are used, but they do not create strong connections between the data. Organise the report into an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs comparing related trends, such as the growing sectors and the declining or stable ones.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “manufacturing,” “retail,” “agriculture,” “healthcare,” and “decreasing,” so the subject is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear. For instance, “number holders” and “Jobs holders” do not naturally describe employment figures; “number of jobs” is appropriate. “Increased by 16%” confuses a percentage with the chart’s figure of 16 million, while “ratio of the change” is not a natural description of trends. Spelling errors such as “Futhermore,” “conculsion,” and “chnage” are also noticeable. Use precise terms for quantities and practise accurate spelling of common reporting vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the reader can usually identify the sectors and time period being discussed. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors occur frequently in basic sentence formation, verb forms, agreement, and articles. Examples include “there is 15 million jobs,” “it reach to 20 millions,” and “the healthcare sectors have the highest jobs.” These should use plural agreement and more suitable verb patterns, such as “there were 15 million jobs” and “the figure reached 20 million.” The opening sentence, “under the 1960-2020,” also has an incorrect preposition. Build accuracy by practising past-tense descriptions of chart data and checking subject–verb agreement, articles, and singular/plural forms.
