Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify all four sectors and describe several broad trends, including manufacturing peaking around 1980 and healthcare rising over time. However, the report only partially selects and reports the key information: it gives few accurate comparisons and omits important figures, such as retail rising from about 6 million to 16 million and healthcare reaching a similar level by 2020. Some details are inaccurate: agriculture starts at about 6 million, not 5, and ends near 2 million, rather than 1. The claim that only healthcare and retail increase is also misleading because manufacturing rises between 1960 and 1980. Avoid unsupported explanations about people losing interest or changing preferences; focus on what the graph shows and provide a clear overview of the main contrasts.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response is divided into paragraphs that generally address different sectors, so the reader can follow its broad subject matter. However, the organisation is mostly a sequence of sector-by-sector comments rather than a clear overview followed by well-selected comparisons. Repeated openings such as “Graph shows” and “Graph illustrate” make the progression mechanical, while the final paragraph repeats earlier trends and contains a confusing comparison: “All two sector unlike healthcare and retail are decreasing.” Use an opening overview to identify the main patterns, then group related trends—for example, the decline in agriculture alongside the rise in healthcare and retail. Clearer linking and reference would make the relationships between figures easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “manufacturing,” “agriculture,” “healthcare,” “increases,” and “decreases,” which helps communicate the general subject. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, especially “Graph shows” and “continuesly.” Spelling errors such as “diffrence,” “contunesly,” and “sectore” are noticeable, and some choices are imprecise or unsuitable for describing data: “big movement” and “people loss interest” do not accurately report a graph trend. Aim for precise trend language and collocations, such as “rose steadily,” “declined,” “reached a peak,” and “the number of jobs.” This would make the report clearer and more appropriately formal.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts some longer sentences with time clauses and comparisons, but control is weak and errors frequently make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “from 1960 to 1980 during is period increases the number” has an unclear clause and incorrect verb form; “healthcare jobs increases” also has subject–verb disagreement. Articles and sentence boundaries are often missing or misused, as in “Graph illustrate about agriculture jobs,” while the final sentence, “All two sector unlike healthcare and retail are decreasing,” is difficult to interpret grammatically. Use a reliable pattern such as “The number of jobs in manufacturing rose from 15 million in 1960 to 20 million in 1980, before falling.” Check agreement, articles, and punctuation when editing.
