Number of jobs in four sectors of the economy in the US, 1960-2020

Student answer (Band 5.0)

In this given information it is the number of jobs in four sectors of the economy in US between 1960 to 2020. It is the discussion about the number of jobs which is increased or decreased.

In the first, Agriculture and Manufacturing in the starting increased and then decreased. It tells us that the manufacturing and agriculture now is less jobs as compared to others. In the stsrting years they are increased but gradually decreased.

In the second, Retail in the starting is decreased but after it is increased. Healthcare is also decreased in first and increased after. It means they both are increased and they have more number of jobs. In 2020 the retail and healthcare have greater number of jobs as compared to manufacturing and agriculture. So accordind to this graph retail and healthcare is best in 2020 for job. I think many people are gone in this field because it has more jobs oppurtunities as well as more money to earn.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the broad contrast between declining agriculture and growing retail and healthcare, and correctly note that retail and healthcare are among the largest sectors by 2020. However, the account only partially reports the graph’s main features. The overview is vague, and several trends are inaccurate: manufacturing rose from about 15 million to 20 million by 1980 before falling, while agriculture declined rather than first increasing. Retail did not decrease at the start, and healthcare rose throughout rather than falling initially. Include key figures and comparisons—for example, manufacturing peaked in 1980, while retail and healthcare reached about 16 million in 2020. Avoid unsupported claims about pay or why people chose these jobs; the graph gives no such information.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic sequence, using “In the first” and “In the second” to group sectors, and it ends with a concluding comment. However, the organisation does not create a clear progression from an overview to well-selected details. The grouping is also confusing: agriculture and manufacturing are described together despite having different trends, and retail and healthcare are grouped despite healthcare’s distinct steady rise. Repeated phrases such as “increased and then decreased” and “increased after” make relationships difficult to follow. Use separate paragraphs for a concise overview and comparisons, then organise details by trend. More precise linking and reference would help readers see which sector each statement describes.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the general topic, with relevant terms such as “number of jobs,” “increased,” “decreased,” and “greater number.” However, the range is limited and repetitive, and several expressions are imprecise or unnatural, including “In this given information,” “best in 2020 for job,” and “more jobs oppurtunities.” Spelling errors such as “stsrting,” “accordind,” and “oppurtunities” also reduce accuracy. For a graph report, use a more precise range of trend language and avoid evaluative claims about which sector is “best.” Practise collocations such as “employment in the sector,” “rose steadily,” and “had the highest number of jobs.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response relies mainly on short, simple statements, with limited control of more complex sentence forms. Frequent errors in sentence construction and agreement sometimes make the meaning awkward: “the manufacturing and agriculture now is less jobs” does not form a clear comparison, and “retail and healthcare is best” has a plural subject with a singular verb. Articles and prepositions are also problematic in phrases such as “in US” and “between 1960 to 2020.” Some sentences are understandable, but errors recur across the response. Build accuracy with straightforward comparative structures, such as “Manufacturing had more jobs than agriculture in 1960,” and check subject–verb agreement, articles, and prepositions.
