Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify all four sectors and report the broad contrast between declining manufacturing and agriculture and rising healthcare and retail. However, the overview is not consistently accurate: agriculture decreases overall, rather than showing the “minor increase” stated earlier, and manufacturing rises to 20 million in 1980 before falling, not from 1960 to 1998. The response also misses key comparisons, such as healthcare catching up with retail at about 16 million by 2020, while manufacturing remains lower at around 13 million. Several trends are described generally without supporting figures, so the main features are only partly developed. Give a precise overview, then select a few accurate figures to support each important trend.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph describing sector trends. This gives the reader some organisation, and linking phrases such as “On the other hand” and “Moreover” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, progression is limited because the final paragraph moves repeatedly between sectors without a clear order or supporting data. Some connectors do not express the relationship accurately, and repeated phrases such as “overall the trend” make the account feel repetitive. The overview also contains conflicting information about agriculture. Organise the details in a consistent sequence—for example, rising sectors followed by declining sectors—and use linking words only where they clarify a genuine comparison or contrast.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “sharp decline,” “increase,” “decrease,” and “positive.” This is enough to communicate the general subject, but the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or repetitive. Phrases such as “give knowledge about jobs,” “huge fall in the job maret,” and “rise in the job sector of health care” are not natural ways to describe graph data. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “continious,” “huige,” and “maret,” which reduce clarity. Build a more precise set of trend expressions and use standard sector names consistently; for example, describe a sector’s employment as rising, falling, peaking, or remaining stable.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the reader can usually understand the main message. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and punctuation. For example, “This line graph demonstrate” has subject–verb disagreement, while “overall there is fluctuations” uses an incorrect verb form and noun construction. The sentence beginning “In manufacturing sector in 1960 to 1998” is difficult to follow because its time references and clause structure are unclear. Capitalisation and spacing around sentence boundaries are also inconsistent. Practise accurate basic sentence patterns first, such as “Manufacturing employment rose from 15 million in 1960 to 20 million in 1980, then declined,” before adding more complex comparisons.
