Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify several relevant features, including manufacturing’s high starting point and the growth of retail and healthcare, and you note that agriculture declined. However, the account is only partial and some key details are inaccurate or unclear. Manufacturing rose from 15 million to 20 million in 1980 before falling to 13 million; your statement that it “drop down in 1980” reverses this important stage. Retail and healthcare both reached about 16 million by 2020, but the response does not clearly explain their different paths or that healthcare rose steadily from 2 million. The overview also calls retail “one of the famous department,” which does not describe the graph’s main trends. Select the major changes accurately and summarise them clearly before adding supporting figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic overall shape: an introduction, a paragraph describing sectors, and a concluding statement. This gives the reader some sense of organisation, and words such as “however” and “therefore” attempt to connect ideas. However, the progression is not consistently clear: several sectors and comparisons are crowded into one long paragraph, and the conclusion repeats earlier points rather than providing a distinct overview. The sequence of manufacturing, retail, and agriculture also leaves healthcare’s trend insufficiently explained. Some linking expressions do not show a clear relationship between the ideas they join. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and the main comparisons, and group sectors with similar trends to make the information easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt a range of vocabulary related to employment and change, including “contributed,” “gradually,” “decreased,” and “sufficient number of jobs.” However, the range is limited by repeated or imprecise expressions, and several word choices make the meaning difficult to interpret. For example, “job details reported by four sectors took part in economy” is not a natural way to introduce the chart, while “famous department” does not convey employment levels. There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as “highiest,” “recoreds,” and “agriculral.” These issues fit a response with a minimally adequate but inconsistent vocabulary range. Prefer precise chart language such as “number of jobs,” “employment,” “rose,” and “fell,” and check spelling and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including a comparison joined with “however,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in verb forms and agreement occur in phrases such as “it is conclude,” “numbers descreased,” and “retail sector … was reported.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also weak: the long sentence beginning “second most contributer” runs several ideas together, making the relationships hard to follow. Articles and sentence construction are sometimes missing or awkward, as in “at 1960” and “which was drop down.” These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader, despite the general meaning being recoverable. Build shorter, complete sentences first, then practise accurate past-tense forms and agreement before combining comparisons.
