Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the four sectors and report several broad trends, including manufacturing peaking around 1980 and agriculture declining. However, the overview is not fully accurate: healthcare rises throughout the period, rather than rising sharply “in 2020,” and manufacturing first increases before falling. Some figures are also misreported: healthcare starts at about 2 million, not 0, and manufacturing ends at about 13 million, not 12. The claim that agriculture and manufacturing are “damanging the economy” is unsupported and inappropriate for a chart summary. The response is 141 words, below the required 150, which limits the detail available. Include a clearer overview and accurate comparisons between the sectors.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details about healthcare and retail, then agriculture and manufacturing. This gives the reader some organisation. However, progression is limited because the overview repeats information that is then restated in the detail paragraphs, and the final claim about sectors damaging the economy does not follow logically from the data. Linking words such as “however” and “meanwhile” are used, but sometimes do not express the relationship between ideas accurately. Paragraphing and clearer grouping of the trends—for example, rising sectors together and declining or fluctuating sectors together—would make the comparisons easier to follow. Use fewer repeated transitions and ensure each sentence develops the point before moving on.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “upward trend,” “downward trend,” “reaching,” and “sector,” so the main topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors make parts difficult to read: “sharly upward trend,” “decent upward trent,” “reaming categarious,” and “damanging the economy.” “Decent” is also not a suitable way to describe a numerical increase. Aim for precise, neutral reporting language such as “rose steadily,” “declined,” “remained stable,” and “peaked at.” Check spelling carefully and avoid evaluative claims about economic effects unless the graph provides evidence for them.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and joined sentences, and the reader can usually identify the intended trends. However, grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships unclear. For example, “the health care jobs in 1960 shows” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “the health care and retail rose” lacks a clear noun phrase and uses an incorrect verb form. Tense and sentence construction are also inconsistent in “manufacturing jobs shows a high increase trend in starting.” Several sentences run together or use punctuation inconsistently, particularly the final long sentence. Practise accurate present-tense descriptions of graph data, agreement between subjects and verbs, and sentence boundaries. Shorter, complete sentences would help you communicate the comparisons more reliably.
