Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the broad direction of several trends, including manufacturing’s rise to 1980 followed by decline and healthcare’s growth. However, the response is incomplete and only partially reports the graph’s main features. It omits the retail figures and the important comparison that retail and healthcare both reach about 16 million jobs by 2020; it also says agriculture became “neutral,” although it falls from about 3 million in 1980 and 2000 to 2 million in 2020. Some figures are inaccurate, such as healthcare at 12 million in 2000 rather than about 11 million. The response is 97 words, below the required 150, which limits the detail and comparisons provided. Include a clear overview and cover all four sectors accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph giving selected figures. This gives the reader some sense of the order in which information is presented. However, the progression is limited because the body discusses manufacturing, healthcare, and agriculture but leaves retail out, and the overview’s points are not clearly developed in the following paragraph. Linking is also awkward in places: “Overall” is joined directly to the next word, while “Meanwhile” introduces a trend without a clear contrast. Group the sectors by their patterns—for example, rising employment versus declining employment—and use clear transitions to connect the overview to the supporting figures.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing data, including “increased,” “dropped,” “rose,” and “decreased,” so the general trends are usually understandable. However, the range is limited and several choices or forms are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “retailing,” “employment ratio,” and “health care centre” when referring to a sector’s job total. Spelling errors, including “preocess,” “agriculute,” and “miion,” also reduce precision. Aim for standard chart language and check spelling carefully. Phrases such as “the number of jobs,” “employment in healthcare,” and “remained stable” would express the information more naturally and accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the reader can generally follow the intended trends. However, control is uneven, particularly in the overview: “the jobs in manufacturing sector increased than the preocess reversed dramatically” has an unclear comparison and faulty sentence construction. Other examples include “it has 5 million jobs in 1980,” where the tense does not fit a past-time report, and “then it become neutral,” which has an incorrect verb form. Articles and punctuation also need attention, as in “in manufacturing sector” and the missing space after “Overall,”. Use past-tense forms consistently and build shorter, complete sentences before attempting more complex comparisons.
