Number of jobs in four sectors of the economy in the US, 1960-2020
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The given line graph shows the numbers of vaccancies in four sectors of the economy in the US between 1960 and 2020. Here, the X-axis represents the year and the Y-axis shows number of jobs in millions.
Overall, to summarise the bar graph it is quite evident that manufacturing has created most jobs in history and then dropped by some. Retail and Healthcare fileds are represting the similar pattern of growth all the years. Agricuture is of the lowest and representing the declinig pattern.
Looking first at the category of manufacturing it shows that in the year 1980, it has created around 20 million jobs and it is the highest benchmark of graph but after that it dropped down to less than 15 million in the year 2020. On the other hand agricuture sector was never grown proper, it started from around 5 million jobs and then decline all the time and holds last position in a graph
The pattern of retail and healthcare is kind of similar because both of them are growing pattern over the period but the healthcare is the most grown sector because it started ftom less than 5 less million jobs and reached at the peak in the year 2020. Retail is representing same graph but it was not grown as much as retail but in end it hold the same position as healthcare.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main broad patterns: manufacturing peaks in 1980 and then declines, agriculture falls overall, and retail and healthcare rise to similar levels by 2020. These are relevant features and give the report a clear overview. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: manufacturing falls to about 13 million, not “less than 15” as a precise endpoint description; agriculture begins at about 6 million, rather than 5; and retail reaches about 16 million, matching healthcare, not healthcare alone reaching the peak. The claim that manufacturing “has created most jobs in history” is too broad for the period shown. Develop the comparisons with accurate figures and distinguish the different growth rates of retail and healthcare more clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs grouping manufacturing with agriculture and retail with healthcare. This makes the main comparisons reasonably easy to follow. Linking phrases such as “Overall,” “Looking first,” and “On the other hand” help signal movement between points. However, some connections are imprecise or repetitive: “Retail and Healthcare fileds are represting the similar pattern” is not clearly expressed, and the final comparison repeats that both sectors grow without explaining their different trajectories. References such as “it” and “same graph” are also not always clear. Use more precise links and organise each paragraph around a clear comparison supported by figures.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “dropped,” “decline,” “growing,” “peak,” and “position,” so the reader can generally understand the trends you intend to describe. However, the range and control of vocabulary are limited, and several word-choice or spelling errors make the report less clear. “Vaccancies” is not the right term for the number of jobs, while “created most jobs in history” is an imprecise description of the graph. There are also errors such as “fileds,” “Agricuture,” “declinig,” and “ftom.” Aim for accurate, neutral reporting language and check spelling carefully. Avoid repeating “same” and “grown”; choose verbs that distinguish steady growth, decline, and reaching a similar level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple statements and longer sentences, including comparisons introduced by “because” and “but.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but some sentence structures and verb forms are faulty. For example, “Retail and Healthcare fields are representing” uses an awkward progressive construction, and “it was not grown as much as retail” has an incorrect passive form and an unclear comparison. In “it started from around 5 million jobs and then decline,” the verb form does not match the past-time description. Articles and sentence boundaries also need attention, as in “holds last position in a graph.” Practise writing concise past-tense comparisons, checking subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation.
