Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the four sectors and mention several relevant trends, including healthcare and retail rising and agriculture declining. However, the response only partially reports the graph: it gives no clear overview of the main comparisons, and several details are vague or inaccurate. For example, manufacturing peaks at about 20 million in 1980, then falls to 13 million by 2020; this pattern is only loosely described as rising and then falling. Healthcare and retail both reach about 16 million in 2020, while agriculture falls from about 6 million to 2 million. The claim that the graph shows “most preferred and reliable jobs” is not supported by the data. The response is also 45 words below the required minimum, limiting the detail you can provide. Add a concise overview and report key figures accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic sequence: an opening sentence introduces the graph, followed by a sentence describing trends. This gives the reader some sense of the topic, and “while” attempts to connect contrasting information. However, there is little overall progression because the trends are compressed into one long, loosely connected sentence, with no clear overview or separate comparisons. The use of “While” at the start of a clause leaves the relationship between ideas awkward, and “in which” does not clearly refer to a specific point. Organise the report into a short introduction, an overview, and one or two detail paragraphs. Group related sectors together and use clear links such as “By contrast” or “Meanwhile” to show how their trends differ.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “increase,” “decrease,” “gradually,” and “steeply,” so the reader can identify the general direction of change. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for a graph report. “Most preferred and reliable jobs” introduces ideas about preference and reliability that the chart does not show, while “million dollars” confuses jobs with money. “Fall down certainly” is also an unsuitable description of the manufacturing trend. Spelling errors such as “loest” and inconsistent capitalisation of “US” reduce accuracy. Use precise terms such as “number of jobs,” “rose,” “declined,” and “reached a peak,” and check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to combine ideas using clauses, as in “while some gradually increase and other steeply increase,” but the response relies on a narrow range of sentence patterns and several attempts at longer sentences are faulty. There are problems with agreement and verb forms: “four section” should be plural, “other” needs to agree with its plural meaning, and “manufacturing job was gradually increase” has an incorrect verb construction. The phrase “it remain lower” also needs a past-tense verb to match the period being described. Articles and sentence boundaries are inconsistent, and the final sentence contains several ideas joined without clear punctuation. Practise accurate past-tense forms and build shorter, complete sentences before combining them with linking clauses.
