Student answer (Band 6.0)

The given graph illustrate the analysis about numbers of jobs in four economical sectors of United States between 1960 and 2020.Maximum people were doing jobs in manufacturing sector in 1980,and least number of jobs were done in healthcare in same year.

In 1960,the number of jobs in manufacturing were 15 million which showed a slight increase in next two decades which reached at the highest numbers of jobs in this sector that was 20 million in 1980.However,it followed a downward trend for 4 decades and showed its lowest which was around 13 million in 2020.Furthermore,in starting year numbers of jobs in retail and agriculture sector began from 6 million respectivly. However, jobs in retail increased rapidly till 2000,but for next 20 years there was minor growth of 1 miillion and in 2020 number of jobs were 16 million. On the other hand, jobs in agriculture sector faced a decline till 1980 and then stayed staible for next two decades however, there was a small decline again started from 2000 to 2020 and reached at its lowest that was less than 5 million. The numbers of jobs in health care sector arised from 2 million numbers of jobs and by following an upward trend all the time it climbed at 16 million in 2020 which was same as numbers of jobs in retail.

Overall, it can be seen that least people of US showed their intrest in field of agriculture in all the given period.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify several important patterns accurately: manufacturing peaks at 20 million in 1980 before falling to 13 million, retail rises to 16 million, and healthcare grows from 2 to 16 million. The overview also correctly notes agriculture’s consistently low employment. However, the opening claim that manufacturing had the most jobs in 1980 and healthcare the fewest “in the same year” is inaccurate: agriculture, at about 3 million, was lower than healthcare’s 5 million. Some details are also imprecise, such as saying manufacturing declined “for 4 decades” without distinguishing its fall after 1980, and describing agriculture only as “less than 5 million” at the end. A clearer overview comparing the final leaders and the contrasting sector trends would make the key features more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a generally understandable sequence: an introduction, a discussion of manufacturing and the other sectors, and a concluding overview. Time markers such as “in 1960,” “by 2000,” and “in 2020” help readers follow the data. However, the body is largely one long paragraph, so the comparisons between sectors are crowded together. Linking words such as “However” and “Furthermore” are repeated and sometimes do not express the relationship clearly; for example, “Furthermore” introduces retail and agriculture figures that are better presented as a direct comparison. The final overview repeats agriculture’s low position rather than synthesising the main changes. Use separate, logically grouped paragraphs and clearer comparisons to improve progression and cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of trend vocabulary, including “downward trend,” “increased rapidly,” “decline,” and “upward trend,” which helps communicate the graph’s movements. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “the analysis about numbers of jobs,” “economical sectors,” “reached at,” and “showed their interest” in agriculture. Spelling errors, including “respectivly,” “miillion,” “staible,” “arised,” and “intrest,” also reduce accuracy. Some phrases are unnecessarily repetitive, particularly “numbers of jobs.” Aim for standard chart language such as “employment,” “rose to,” “fell to,” and “remained stable,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses linked with “which,” “however,” and “by following an upward trend.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “The given graph illustrate” has subject–verb disagreement, while “the number of jobs … were 15 million” uses an incorrect verb form with a singular subject. Articles and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent: “in starting year” needs an article, and several sentences run together without spaces after full stops. The long sentence beginning “Furthermore, in starting year…” contains several ideas that would be clearer as shorter, correctly punctuated sentences. Review agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
