Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the four sectors and make a relevant attempt to describe their overall movement, including manufacturing’s rise and later fall and agriculture’s decline. However, the overview is unclear and contains important inaccuracies: healthcare did not have more jobs than the other sectors throughout, and it rose from about 2 million to 16 million, not from zero to 15 million. Retail and healthcare were joint highest at around 16 million in 2020, while manufacturing began highest in 1960 and peaked in 1980. The comparison that agriculture was the least throughout is also inaccurate at the start, when it matched retail. To strengthen the response, give a clear overview of the main changes and support it with accurate, selected figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has an introduction followed by separate paragraphs, and it attempts to group information by sector. This gives it some basic organisation. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the overview repeats the idea of comparison without stating the main pattern, and the sector ranking in the second paragraph is confusing: agriculture is described as both after retail and “the least of all,” then repeated as agriculture. Linking phrases such as “in contrast” and “then” are used, but connections between claims are not always clear. Organise the report into a concise overview and a body that compares related trends, such as the rising sectors and the declining ones, using clear references to each sector.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “sector,” “employment,” “in contrast,” “continuously,” and “peak,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning awkward, such as “number of employments,” “on the second no,” and “arise its employment rate.” “Employment” is also repeated where “jobs” or “employment levels” would be more natural. Some phrases, including “It takes a start at high,” are difficult to interpret. Aim for precise chart language such as “stood at,” “increased to,” “declined,” and “reached a peak,” and use the sector names consistently.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including a contrast with “in contrast,” but control is uneven. Errors in sentence structure and verb forms occur frequently enough to make some statements difficult to understand. For example, “the retail sector arise its employment rate” has an incorrect verb form and construction, while “the manufacturing sector is arose” combines incompatible verb forms. There are also problems with articles, agreement, and punctuation, as in “in United States” and the run-on presentation after “Overall.” Use straightforward, complete sentences with consistent past-tense verbs for the historical data, and check sentence boundaries, articles, and subject–verb agreement before submitting.
