Number of jobs in four sectors of the economy in the US, 1960-2020

Student answer (Band 5.0)

The graph illustrate the graphical representation of US job market in four different sectors of the economy from the period of 1996 to 2020.we can see in the sector of manufacturing there is dramatical increase and deacrese from 1960 to 2020 from peak to down which gives imcredible number of deacrese as its shows peak in 1980 around 20 miilion jobs , but in 2020 decline reach around 12 million. There is static increase in the sector of healthcare and job ratio increase every decade, in the year 1960 its on minimual and 2020 the peak reach to 16 millions. As we can see there is optimal decrease in the sector of agriculture and gradually decreasing in every decade. There is slight gradual increase in the sector of reatil which is 6 millions in the year 1960s and there is constant increase untill 2000 and after 2000 its increasing gradually . The graphical representation shows that as healthcare sector have increase in jobs on the other hand agricultual and manufacturing sector have declind in that.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several important trends: manufacturing peaks in 1980 before falling, healthcare rises to about 16 million, and agriculture declines. These observations are relevant and broadly match the graph. However, the overview is not clearly separated or fully accurate: the final claim that both healthcare and agriculture increased while manufacturing declined is confusing, and retail is omitted from the overall comparison. Some details are also vague or inaccurate; for example, retail rises from 6 million to 10 million by 1980 and 15 million by 2000, then reaches about 16 million in 2020, rather than simply continuing to increase after 2000. A clearer overview comparing the leading and changing sectors, supported by selected figures, would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response follows a broadly understandable sequence, moving through manufacturing, healthcare, agriculture and retail, and it uses basic links such as “but” and “on the other hand.” However, the information is presented as one long paragraph, so the overview and supporting details are not clearly distinguished. Several transitions are repetitive or awkward, particularly repeated openings such as “There is” and “As we can see.” The final sentence is difficult to follow because its comparison is unclear. Organise the report into a short introduction, an overview, and one or two detail paragraphs; then group related trends and use references such as “By contrast” or “Meanwhile” only where they clarify the relationship.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt a range of trend vocabulary, including “peak,” “decline,” “gradually decreasing” and “constant increase,” which helps communicate the graph’s main movements. However, inaccurate word choice, spelling and collocation are frequent enough to make parts of the report difficult to read. Examples include “dramatical increase and deacrese,” “optimal decrease,” “static increase,” and “job ratio,” which do not express the trends naturally or precisely. Several spellings, such as “reatil,” “miilion” and “agricultual,” also reduce clarity. Use standard graph-reporting phrases consistently—for example, “rose steadily,” “fell gradually,” and “reached a peak”—and check spelling and word forms before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You make some attempts to connect ideas in longer sentences, using forms such as “which” and “on the other hand,” but the range of sentence structures is limited and many sentences contain errors. For example, “The graph illustrate” has subject–verb disagreement, while “from the period of 1996 to 2020.we can see” has an incorrect date and faulty sentence boundary. Phrases such as “the peak reach” and “its on minimual” also show problems with verb forms and sentence construction. Missing spaces after full stops and inconsistent punctuation further interrupt the reading. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses, checking agreement, tense, articles and punctuation.
