Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify all four sectors and describe several broad patterns, including manufacturing’s rise and later decline, agriculture’s fall, and growth in retail and healthcare. These are relevant features, but the overview is unclear and partly contradictory: you say agriculture “jobs are drops,” then suggest agriculture and healthcare are “increasing” at the end. Some figures and dates are also misreported. The chart begins in 1960, not 1990; manufacturing starts at 15 million, while healthcare starts at 2 million, not 3. Retail reaches about 16 million in 2020, and healthcare about 16 million, rather than the lower figures given. To make the summary more complete and clear, state the main comparisons accurately and distinguish the sectors’ different trends.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is an attempt to organise the response into an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs, and the reader can generally see that you discuss manufacturing and agriculture before retail and healthcare. However, progression within and between these sections is difficult to follow. Connectors such as “Howevery,” “Although,” and “Remaining” are either inaccurate or do not clearly express the relationship between ideas, while “While” is repeated. The overview also combines conflicting claims, which weakens the overall line of argument. Use clear paragraph purposes, group the figures by trend, and link comparisons directly—for example, explain that retail and healthcare both rise, while agriculture declines.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “line chart,” “sectors,” “rose,” “falling,” and “gradually rise,” so the topic is recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear. “Number of employment” is not a natural phrase, “manufacturing filed as” does not convey a clear trend, and “vaccinations” appears to be an unintended word in place of a description of job numbers. There are also spelling errors such as “Howevery,” “whlie,” and “milion.” Choose precise terms for employment figures and practise common trend phrases, such as “employment in manufacturing peaked” and “agricultural jobs declined.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple statements and longer sentences, but control is inconsistent, and errors frequently make relationships between figures hard to understand. Examples include “manufacturing jobs are increased,” where the verb form is incorrect, and “retail and healthcare jobs are gradually rise,” which combines incompatible verb forms. Several sentences lack clear grammatical structure, such as “Remaining, Retail as the 5 million vacancies in 1990 sharply rise.” Articles, plurals and punctuation are also unreliable, as in “15 millions jobs” and the missing spaces after full stops. Build accurate simple sentences first, using past-tense verbs for the historical data, then add comparisons with correctly formed clauses.
