Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify several relevant features, including manufacturing’s peak of about 20 million in 1980 and agriculture’s decline to around 2 million by 2020. However, the response only partially summarises the graph: the opening refers vaguely to 1960 and 2020, and the overview does not clearly capture the main overall changes. The healthcare description is unfinished (“it climbing”), and retail is not discussed, so important information is omitted. Some wording also makes comparisons unclear, such as saying manufacturing fluctuated “while comparing it with healthcare.” The response is 141 words, below the required 150. To strengthen the report, complete the healthcare trend, include retail’s rise, and give a concise overview comparing the sectors’ end points.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the report: an introduction and overview are followed by paragraphs beginning “Firstly” and “Secondly.” This gives the reader some sense of sequence, and the manufacturing and agriculture details are grouped together. However, progression is limited because the report stops partway through the healthcare discussion and does not cover retail. Linking phrases such as “And” at the start of the second introductory sentence and repeated “while” constructions do not always clarify how ideas relate. Some references are also difficult to follow, particularly “That had a dramatic change.” Use a clear paragraph plan—introduction, overview, then grouped sector comparisons—and connect each trend explicitly to its dates and figures.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “sector,” “fluctuation,” “declining,” and “dramatic change,” which helps communicate the general subject. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make the report less clear: “diagrame,” “tabel,” “manufactring,” and “pessage” are noticeable, while “numbers of opportunity” is not a natural way to describe employment. “Instant change” is also imprecise for a trend that develops over several decades. Aim for accurate, conventional chart language such as “number of jobs,” “employment,” “rose steadily,” and “fell gradually.” Check spelling carefully and choose terms that describe the data rather than opportunities for workers.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts a few longer structures, for example “while comparing it with healthcare sector,” but sentence forms are often incomplete or faulty, and errors sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to understand. Examples include “The diagrame illustrates about the numbers jobs had,” “It had a lowest numbers,” and the unfinished final clause, “That had a dramatic change it climbing.” There are also problems with articles, agreement, verb forms, and sentence boundaries. Most statements rely on simple patterns, with limited accurate control of complex clauses. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use past-tense forms consistently when describing the historical data—for example, “Healthcare employment rose from about 2 million in 1960 to 16 million in 2020.”
