Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify several relevant trends, including the decline in agriculture and the growth of healthcare, and you give some figures. However, the response only partially summarises the graph: it lacks a clear overall overview and contains important inaccuracies. Manufacturing was highest in 1980, but it did not remain the largest sector through 2020; by then retail and healthcare were both about 16 million, compared with manufacturing at about 13 million. Retail also did not remain unchanged after 2000: it rose slightly from about 15 to 16 million. The final estimate of 30–35 million jobs combines the two sectors incorrectly; together they total about 32 million, but this should be stated clearly. The response is also four words below the required minimum. Include a concise overview and report the main comparisons accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response is divided into short paragraphs, and the sequence from manufacturing to healthcare, agriculture and retail gives the reader a basic way to follow the information. Linking phrases such as “However” and “In the other side” show an attempt to connect ideas, but some transitions are awkward or do not clearly express the relationship between points. The paragraphs also read largely as separate observations rather than a connected summary with an overview and logically grouped comparisons. For example, healthcare and retail could be discussed together because both grew substantially, while agriculture and manufacturing could be contrasted. Use clearer linking expressions and references, and organise the response around the graph’s main patterns rather than treating each sector as an isolated point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “sector,” “industry,” “agriculture,” “retail,” and “career opportunities,” so the subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate or repetitive expressions make parts of the report less clear. “Job market had the highest number” is imprecise, while “the graph show steady position” and “not producing more jobs” do not describe the data naturally. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “gredually,” “oppertunity,” “feild,” and “rema[in]” (written as “reamin”). Aim for precise chart language such as “employment,” “rose,” “declined,” and “remained stable,” and check spelling and collocations carefully. This would make your comparisons clearer and more appropriate for an academic report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple statements and longer sentences, including a contrast introduced by “However” and a clause beginning “but.” Nevertheless, the range is limited, and frequent errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “In the year of 1980 USA job market had the highest number” is missing appropriate articles and has an unclear subject; “that number had the highest compare to all the other industry” has an incorrect comparison structure and singular/plural agreement. In “agriculture related jobs getting decreased,” the verb form is incomplete. Practise accurate past-tense descriptions and straightforward comparison patterns, such as “Manufacturing employment peaked at 20 million in 1980, then fell to 13 million by 2020.”
