Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the chart’s subject and report several key trends, including manufacturing’s rise to a peak in 1980 followed by decline, agriculture’s overall fall, and growth in healthcare. Many figures are close to the chart, but retail is reported as 15 million in 2020 rather than 16 million, and healthcare is given as 12 million in 2000 and 17 million in 2020 rather than approximately 11 and 16 million. The overview is also incomplete: it omits the strong growth in retail and healthcare and does not identify their joint lead by 2020. To make the summary more complete, highlight these contrasting trends and compare the sectors at the end of the period.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable introduction, overview, and two detail paragraphs, and it groups manufacturing and retail separately from agriculture and healthcare. This gives the information some organisation. However, progression within the paragraphs is not always clear: “Then” and “Additionally” do not consistently show how the figures relate, and “At the last” makes the final comparison difficult to follow. The overview also focuses on two declining sectors without previewing the major growth trends discussed later. Use clearer sequencing and comparison language, and ensure each paragraph develops a distinct point—for example, contrasting the two growing sectors with the two declining ones.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant chart vocabulary such as “declined,” “reached,” and “increased,” so the reader can generally understand the trends being described. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, including “line chats,” “its strength,” “Agricalture gaves,” and “same condition.” These errors sometimes make the intended meaning less clear, while repeated use of “millions jobs” and “increase” limits precision. Choose standard terms for describing data and check spelling and collocations. More accurate phrases such as “the number of jobs,” “employment rose,” and “remained stable” would make the report clearer and more appropriate to an academic chart summary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to describe changes across several time periods and use some linking clauses, but the sentence structures are limited and errors occur frequently. Examples include “manufacturing was rises,” “its strength were decrease,” and “Healthcare had 2 millions in first,” where verb forms, agreement, and articles are not controlled. Some sentences also combine several figures without clear grammatical relationships, as in the manufacturing description. These problems can make the timeline difficult to interpret. Practise using accurate past-tense forms and straightforward comparison structures, such as “Manufacturing rose from 15 million in 1960 to 20 million in 1980, before falling to 13 million by 2020.”
