Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You report the main figures for all four sectors, and most match the graph: manufacturing peaks at 20 million in 1980 before falling to 13 million, while agriculture declines to 2 million by 2020. However, the response mainly lists values and does not provide a clear overview of the most important patterns or comparisons. For example, it does not highlight that manufacturing begins as the largest sector, whereas retail and healthcare rise and reach 16 million each by 2020. Some descriptions are also unclear: “increased in 1980 by 10 million jobs” could mean an increase of ten million, rather than a total of ten million. To strengthen the report, add a concise overview and make the key changes and end-point comparisons explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The information is presented in a generally understandable sequence, moving through the sectors and following the years within each one. This gives the reader a basic structure, and phrases such as “in 2000” and “at the end in 2020” help signal time. However, the response is one continuous paragraph, with no distinct introduction or overview, so the main message is difficult to identify. Repeated patterns such as “and then” and “at the end” make the progression mechanical, while some links between clauses are unclear. Organise the report into an introduction and overview, followed by grouped detail paragraphs, and use comparisons to connect related trends rather than treating every figure as a separate item.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough basic vocabulary to identify the sectors and describe upward and downward movement, including “increased,” “decreased,” and “fell down.” The meaning is usually recoverable, but the range is limited and several choices are imprecise or repetitive. For instance, “this job is increased” is not a natural way to describe a figure, and “changed to 15 million” does not clearly express that retail employment rose. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “abot,” “givien,” “chaneged,” and “Agricluture.” Use more precise chart language such as “rose to,” “declined to,” “stood at,” and “reached a peak,” and check spelling carefully to make the report clearer and more formal.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response communicates the figures through mostly simple clauses, and the repeated year-by-year pattern makes the basic meaning understandable. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and frequent errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries reduce accuracy. Examples include “This graph show,” “the jobs of Health care is,” and “in 1980 this job is increaseed”; these should use appropriate agreement and past-tense forms. Several sentences also run together without a space or full stop, as in “2020.this info,” and clauses are often joined with repeated “and.” Practise accurate past-tense reporting and vary sentence patterns, for example by combining a trend with a comparison while keeping punctuation clear.
