Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify all four sectors and report several broad trends, including manufacturing’s rise and subsequent decline, retail’s growth, agriculture’s fall, and healthcare’s increase. However, the account is only partially developed: there is no clear overall summary comparing the main changes, and some details are inaccurate or unclear. For example, manufacturing is given as falling from 20 to 12, whereas the chart shows about 17 in 2000 and 13 in 2020; agriculture falls to about 2 by 2020, not simply from 6 to 3 over the last 40 years. The claim that agriculture has “no job here” is also unsupported. A concise overview and more accurate comparisons would make the key features clearer.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response follows a recognisable order, discussing manufacturing, retail, agriculture and healthcare in turn, so the reader can identify which sector each section concerns. However, the writing lacks a clear introduction and overview, and the ideas within each sector are often joined in long, loosely connected strings. Repeated openings such as “and” and “the next 20 years” make the progression mechanical, while phrases such as “and he sector” leave the reference unclear. Use separate paragraphs for an overview and the main details, and connect comparisons explicitly—for example, explain that healthcare and retail both reached about 16 million jobs by 2020.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “manufacturing,” “retail,” “Agriculture,” “Healthcare,” “increasing,” and “growth,” which helps convey the subject. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, while frequent spelling errors and inaccurate word choices make parts difficult to understand: “sectoer,” “excitmated,” “condation,” and “opercunity.” Some expressions are also unsuitable for describing chart data, such as “very bad condition” and “no more job options.” Choose precise terms for trends and figures, and check spelling carefully. More accurate vocabulary would help you describe rises, falls and comparisons without relying on vague phrases such as “very fast.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to describe changes over time and includes some time references, such as “in 1960 to 1980” and “the next 40 years.” However, sentence structures are limited, and many sentences contain frequent errors that make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. For example, “there is showing four different” has an incorrect verb construction, while “the job in manufactur sectoer is low and new job number is 20 to 12” lacks clear grammatical links and tense control. Articles, plurals and punctuation are also often missing or inconsistent. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, such as “Manufacturing employment rose from 15 million in 1960 to 20 million in 1980, then declined.”
