Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify all four sectors and describe broad directions, including declining agriculture and growth in healthcare. However, the response only partially reports the graph’s key information: it gives no figures or clear comparisons, and several claims are inaccurate or unclear. Manufacturing rose to a peak of about 20 million in 1980 before falling, rather than simply decreasing over time. Retail did not remain at its initial peak; it increased from about 6 million to 16 million. Healthcare also began at a low level, around 2 million, not with “plenty of job.” A stronger response would give a concise overview of the main changes and support it with accurate values and comparisons across the period.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response follows a basic sequence, moving through the sectors one by one, and phrases such as “At first” and “last but not least” signal transitions. However, the organisation does not create a clear overview followed by well-developed comparisons. The opening says only that there are four sectors and that lines are used, while the body combines several ideas in long, loosely connected sentences. For example, the retail and agriculture discussion runs together, and “finally the last one sector” repeats the sequencing rather than clarifying relationships between trends. Use separate paragraphs for an overview and grouped details, and connect sectors by comparing their levels or changes over time.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt a range of vocabulary related to employment, including “sector,” “occupation,” “opportunity,” and “shortage.” However, word choice and spelling errors are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. Expressions such as “the sector of produce,” “the market,” and “offer chances to work for the demand” are not natural ways to describe the chart. There are also misspellings, including “ilucidate,” “sarting,” and “begining.” Aim for precise, conventional language for describing data, such as “jobs in manufacturing,” “employment rose,” and “the number of jobs declined.” This would make your descriptions clearer and more appropriate to an academic report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt longer sentences and use time clauses, as in “therefore with time it started to decrease slowly,” but these structures are often faulty. Errors include missing or incorrect articles and prepositions (“in US,” “in the sarting five years”), subject–verb agreement (“it decrease”), and tense or verb-form problems (“the graph is representing,” “it hold up his position”). Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent, particularly where several ideas are joined without clear separation. These errors sometimes make the intended trend hard to interpret. Practise accurate simple past forms for the historical data and build longer sentences with clear clauses, for example: “Manufacturing employment rose to 20 million in 1980, then declined.”
