Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the broad pattern that manufacturing starts as the largest sector and declines, while healthcare rises from the smallest to one of the largest. However, the report is only 144 words, below the 150-word minimum, and the overview is vague: it does not clearly state that retail also rises or that retail and healthcare both reach about 16 million jobs in 2020. Some details are inaccurate or unclear, such as calling agriculture “at the average point” in 1960; it was tied with retail at about 6 million. To strengthen the response, include a concise overview of the main contrasts and support it with key figures across the years, including manufacturing’s peak in 1980 and the steady fall in agriculture.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction to an overview and then to comparisons, and phrases such as “while on the other hand” show an attempt to connect contrasting trends. However, progression is limited because the overview repeats the introduction rather than summarising the main features, and the final paragraph combines several sectors in a long, difficult-to-follow sentence. Some linking is awkward or repetitive, including “but at the ending” and “while on the other hand.” Organise the details into clearer comparisons—for example, rising sectors together and declining sectors together—and use linking words only where they clarify the relationship between figures.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “manufacturing sector,” “healthcare,” “agriculture,” and “decreasing,” so the reader can identify the subject and broad trends. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which makes parts of the report unclear: “highest number job,” “average point,” and “decreasing in decreasing order” do not express the data naturally. There are also noticeable spelling and word-form errors, such as “higest,” “lest,” and “sertain.” Aim for precise trend language and standard collocations, such as “the number of jobs,” “the lowest figure,” “rose steadily,” and “fell gradually.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast between healthcare and agriculture in the final paragraph. However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often faulty, so the reader has to work to follow the meaning. Examples include “Overall, The graph illustrate,” where the verb does not agree with the subject, and “it has been gradually change,” which has an incorrect verb form. The sentence beginning “As we can see that” is also awkwardly constructed, while punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build shorter comparison sentences first, checking subject–verb agreement, articles, and verb forms before combining ideas.
