Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the chart’s subject and period, and you note the main contrast that manufacturing starts highest while retail and healthcare rise and agriculture declines. You also correctly report manufacturing’s peak in 1980 at 20 million. However, the response addresses the task only partially: it ends mid-sentence (“Another behave oppsi…”) and omits the later patterns and key comparisons, including healthcare’s rise to 16 million and retail’s increase to a similar level. The overview is also unclear about the final ranking, and the claim that the three smaller sectors were all around five million in 1960 is imprecise, especially for healthcare at about two million. The response is 50 words below the required minimum, limiting the detail reported. Develop a complete overview and cover the main changes across the period.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation: an opening paragraph introduces the chart, a separate paragraph gives an overview, and “In detail” signals the start of supporting information. This gives the reader a basic framework. However, progression is interrupted because the final sentence stops at “Another behave oppsi…”, leaving the comparison unfinished and the report without a conclusion to its data description. Connections between ideas are also limited; the overview lists trends, but the detail paragraph does not systematically compare the four sectors or move clearly through the years. Commas and spacing around lists are inconsistent, which further affects readability. Complete each point and organise the details by clear trends or time periods, using linking phrases such as “by contrast” and “by 2020” accurately.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “line chart,” “millions,” “peak,” and “decrease” (attempted as “decress”), so the reader can recognise the topic and some trends. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make parts difficult to understand: “avalable,” “higest,” “comperetivly,” and “oppsi.” Phrases such as “agriculture growed down side” and “manufacturing started from high level” are not natural ways to describe a graph. Aim for accurate, conventional trend language, for example “declined,” “reached a peak,” and “began at a higher level.” Check spelling carefully and use precise sector names and comparisons; this will make the limited but relevant vocabulary more effective.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts a few different sentence forms, including an overview with contrasting trends and a sentence describing change over time. However, grammatical control is weak and errors frequently make the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “This is line chart type of diagram,” “Overall, in started manufacturing sector has…,” and “manufacturing statred from high leval and achive peck.” These show problems with articles, sentence structure, verb forms, and agreement. The final fragment, “Another behave oppsi,” is also incomplete. Most sentences rely on simple patterns, and attempts to combine ideas are often faulty. Practise complete subject–verb sentences and past-tense reporting, such as “Manufacturing reached a peak of 20 million jobs in 1980, then declined.” Use full stops to separate complete ideas.
