Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify all four sectors and include several relevant figures, such as manufacturing rising from 15 million to 20 million before declining, and retail increasing over time. However, the overview is unclear: “the numbers appear to be the highest” does not identify which sector leads, and “years is the lowest” is not a meaningful comparison. Some figures are inaccurate or confusing: retail in 2000 is given as “a5 million” rather than about 15 million, and agriculture is described as falling to 4 million in 1980, whereas the chart shows about 3 million. Healthcare is only summarised by its start and end, with no intermediate trend. Select the main overall patterns and report the data accurately and clearly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic sequence: an introduction, an overview, and then descriptions of the four sectors. Signposting such as “Talking about manufacturing,” “Next,” and “Last one” helps the reader follow the order. However, the overview does not establish a clear progression or comparison, and the long final paragraph combines several series in a way that makes the information difficult to track. Some linking phrases are awkward or unclear, particularly “towards retail” and “or in 2000.” Use separate, focused paragraphs for related trends, and connect comparisons directly—for example, explain how healthcare and retail both rose while agriculture declined. Clearer sentence boundaries would also improve the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “increase,” “fluctuation,” “started,” and “end,” and you attempt to describe changes across time. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings make the report harder to understand. Examples include “catagerioes,” “noticable,” “joobs,” and “millipon.” Phrases such as “the numbers appear to be the highest” and “its come’s to” are also imprecise or unnatural for describing a graph. Aim for accurate trend language and standard collocations, such as “reached a peak,” “declined to,” and “stood at.” Proofreading spelling and choosing precise terms for each sector will make your comparisons clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt to describe changes using past-time references and some longer sentence forms, but control is inconsistent. Errors occur frequently in verb forms, agreement, and sentence construction, as in “its joobs are in 1960 is 15 million,” “in 1980 its become 20 million,” and “some catageroies shown an increase.” These patterns make relationships between the year and the figure difficult to follow. Punctuation is also unreliable: several clauses are joined in one long sentence, with inconsistent spacing and commas. Practise a clear structure such as “Manufacturing stood at 15 million in 1960, rose to 20 million in 1980, and then declined.” This will help you express comparisons accurately while building more varied sentences.
