Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is argued that the most efficient way of providing homes in big cities is to construct tall apartments blocks i agree with the statement to most extent however there is also some concerns.By building tall apartment blocks it will save land area, time and cost although mantaining that place will be challenging.

Firstly, in big cities land areas are limited and congusted so if government plans to provide homes in the cities they have to look after the areas of places such as forest to cut down the trees but it is solved by providing the homes in in one tall aparment blocks.

Secondly, the cost of land in big cities is costly, if we go try to find idol land in big cities they are fragmented in different parts of the cities. so it is really time consuming as well but it can be resolved by having the land at one place. for example In Singapore the land distribution is really less per people but the government solve that problem by introducing apartment blocks system.

However, maintaing the whole builing in which a lot of people live from different family and background will be tough. the administration of the builiding have to face the challenge of maintaining cleanliness, peace and safety of the people.

In conclusion, i think the the postive side of giving homes in large cities to make tall apartment blocks outweigh the negative side. because it will save land area, precious time and money of the people over keeping peace and securing safety of the people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you agree “to most extent,” while acknowledging concerns about maintenance. You address both the benefits of tall blocks and one drawback, and the Singapore example is relevant support. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For instance, the claim that building upwards avoids cutting down trees needs a clearer link to how this would work in a crowded city, and the discussion of land costs and time partly repeats the same idea. The maintenance concern is also brief: you name cleanliness, peace and safety but do not explain how these challenges might be managed or how they affect your overall judgement. Develop each main point with a specific explanation or example to make the argument more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two supporting paragraphs, a counterpoint and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly” and “However” help readers follow the argument, and the conclusion returns to your position. Some connections are mechanical or unclear, though. The second paragraph moves from land prices to fragmented plots and then time consumption without making each link explicit. In the conclusion, “because” begins a fragment, and the final contrast between saving resources and maintaining safety is difficult to follow. Use clearer links between cause and result, and ensure each paragraph develops one central point before moving on.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “land distribution,” “administration,” “cleanliness” and “safety,” which helps communicate the main ideas. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation and spelling errors make parts less natural or occasionally difficult to interpret. Examples include “idol land” for suitable land, “congusted” for congested, and “the cost of land … is costly,” which repeats the same idea awkwardly. “Apartment blocks system” is also an unnatural phrase. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully; using a few precise terms such as “high-density housing” or “maintenance costs” would make the discussion more effective.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a concession with “although” and a contrast introduced by “However.” The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles and punctuation remain. For example, “if government plans” needs an article or plural subject, and “the administration … have to face” has a subject–verb agreement problem. The opening sentence runs several ideas together without appropriate punctuation, while “the the positive side” contains an unnecessary repeated article. Practise separating long sentences and checking subject–verb agreement and articles. More consistently accurate complex sentences would make your reasoning easier to follow.
