Student answer (Band 5.0)
I totally disagree with the statement because it can ruin the beauty of the city,as i live in a city like chandigarh there are no such large buildings but it is still the most well managed city of the nation. To accomodate more people and to provide enough homes we doesn't need tall buildings, all we require is a good architecture who can plan the city well,as it was done in the case of chandigarh.Large buildings can never provide a good lifestyle all they provide is work culture and chaos. We all know homes are built for better lifestyle and a joyfull life and all these things are only provided in a tier 2 city with less tall apartments.A major example of this is chandigarh it is kown as the best city for retirement.this is the only reason people are more happy there from the rest of the places in india because when we need to settle down somewere we dont need large tall apartment blocks all we need is a less crowded place with joyfull people and a beautifull and diverse culture.the reason i am not agreeing to large tall apartments is that these things brings choas and stressfull life this is the only reason why the lifespam of pepole in large tall apartments is less than the people living in the cities like chandigarh. At the end i would conclude that enough homes and large tall apartments can provide opportunities to people but not the joyfull and a happy life.without better lifestyle there is no use of large tall appartments.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear from the opening: you disagree with tall apartment blocks and use Chandigarh as your main example. You also recognise that such buildings can provide opportunities, which gives your conclusion some balance. However, the response only partly addresses the question of whether high-rise construction is the best way to provide enough homes. Most of the discussion focuses on beauty, happiness, retirement and stress, rather than explaining how alternative planning could house a growing urban population or why tall buildings may be insufficient. The claims about lifespan and residents’ happiness are asserted without evidence. To strengthen the response, compare housing capacity and practical trade-offs, and develop a specific example showing how your preferred approach can provide enough homes.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a recognisable line of argument: disagreement, Chandigarh as an example, and a concluding restatement. However, it is presented as one long paragraph, so the reader cannot easily distinguish the main claim, supporting reasons and conclusion. Ideas also move quickly from city planning to lifestyle, retirement, stress and lifespan, with little explanation of how each point supports the housing question. Linking phrases such as “To accommodate more people” and “At the end” provide some signposting, but connections are often repetitive or unclear. Organise the essay into separate paragraphs, each with one central reason, and use clear references and transitions to show how the example supports that reason.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “architecture,” “crowded,” “culture,” “lifestyle” and “apartment blocks,” and the reader can generally understand your position. However, the range is limited and several expressions are repeated, particularly “large tall apartments,” “joyfull life” and “better lifestyle.” Some word choices or combinations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “work culture and chaos” and “the lifespam of pepole … is less.” Spelling errors, including “accomodate,” “kown” and “beautifull,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise housing and planning vocabulary, and check spelling and collocations. This would help you express the argument more clearly without relying on repeated general terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences using clauses such as “because,” “as” and “when,” but these structures are often difficult to control. Errors include “we doesn't need,” “all these things is,” and “these things brings,” where subject–verb agreement is incorrect. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also frequently missing: the opening joins several complete ideas with commas, and capitalisation is inconsistent, as in “i” and “chandigarh.” There is some variety in sentence forms, but many sentences are long and contain several errors, which can make relationships between ideas harder to follow. Practise writing shorter, accurately punctuated sentences first, then combine related points using controlled subordinate clauses.
